Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 27, 2016 1:01 am Hello all! We are building with HGWA and are not overly impressed with their Della Vita 450x450 floor tile selection (for living areas). Was wondering whether anyone has upgraded their floor tiles to something different? We found a 600x600 non-rectified porcelain tile at Crosby Tiles (within the 'Builders Range') that we really like but HGWA will not give us any idea before pre-start of how much extra it will be to upgrade. In fact, that is their standard response to pretty much any question I ask! "It will be done at pre-start". Quite frustrating really! Thanks for any insight you can give. -Mrsxtro Re: HGWA Floor Tiling 2Jun 27, 2016 1:43 am Hi, We were looking at going with Crosby Tiles but 1st of it was $150.00 administration costs and then if you had tiles sizes above the standard which is stated below it started to add up. Standard tile sizes allowed for in your agreement with the above suppliers are maximum 200mm x 400mm - laid horizontal for walls and 200mmx 200mm for floors. Tile selections that will incur additional costs: • Any tile chosen outside of the builders range $44.00 per sq/m • Any tile chosen outside of the standard size 200mmx 400mm - laid horizontal for walls and 200 x 200mm for floors • Any selection of porcelain or rectified tiles • Mitred tile edges • Borders, Décor or Mosaic tile sheets • 45°or brick bond tiling layout Note: The Home Group WA preferred maximum wall tile size is 300 x 600mm (non-standard) and maximum floor tile size is 333 x 333mm (non-standard). Note: All additional charges will be determined at your Prestart Meeting. Unfortunately, no charges can be confirmed prior to this day. We asked to take the tilling off and we would do it ourselves but we would only get $3000 back so we decided to stick the with the tiles as we had to bring out pre-start costs down. Hope this helps a little bit. Re: HGWA Floor Tiling 3Jun 27, 2016 1:49 am Thanks romance76. Yes, we got that very same reply too. However, due to the tile sizes they are quoting I am assuming they are referring to bathroom and splash back tiling. I can't seem to get any clear answer from them about actual floor tiling in the living areas. Very frustrating! Re: HGWA Floor Tiling 4Jun 27, 2016 9:46 am Mrsxtro01 I can't seem to get any clear answer from them about actual floor tiling in the living areas. Very frustrating! Hey OP, since builders don't normally do living area floor tiles you can do your own tiling after the hand-over. Otherwise from what I know they should also have a 600 x 600 from their standard range with a few more colours but with extra cost. Sorry but I don't know what those costs are since we've chosen to go timber laminate for all living areas including kitchen! Re: HGWA Floor Tiling 5Jun 27, 2016 4:37 pm Hi Mrsxtro01 We are just getting to the final few weeks of our build and have been very pleased with it so far. I just looked up our variation sheet and we got $4851 back for floor tiles. We chose vinyl planks from Carpet Call after I'd seen them at a friends house. Homegroup do do 600 tiles but I guess they will charge you heaps as they are non standard. Perhaps better to take there's out and do it yourself. Re: HGWA Floor Tiling 6Jul 14, 2016 3:23 pm I hear you all about the replies from Homegroup so frustrating, why can't they just give a price allowance per sqm for the main floor tiling like they do with the wet area tiling so then we can at least work out prior to prestart if it is going to fit into our budget or not. We actually had our tile and laminate meeting just the other day and we settled on the dark brown 450 x 450 tile for the main floor tile and then she brought out the grout choices a whole of 4 and not one of them matches or even tones with that tile so we decided to leave it and are going to tile after handover (even though we don't know until prestart what we are getting back). The same happened with the bathroom floor tiles as well, we liked the mocha but the grout that matches that tile, the one they have in their display in the office they have stopped using now, so with the mocha tile we could of chosen a white grout or a cream grout, ended up going to Crosby's instead (Damien at Crosby's is amazing, very helpful). Mrsxtro01 one thing I did find out though at the tile and laminate meeting was that the $150 admin fee is only charged if you choose the wet area tiles from Crosby or European Ceramics, if you choose the wet area tiles from Homegroup and the main floor tiles from Crosby or European Ceramics apparently they don't charge the $150 admin fee, that's what the girl who did our tile and laminate meeting told us. Mrsxtro01 in regards to the 600 x 600 the girl that did the tile and laminate meeting told us to avoid using them if we can, even the DellaVita ones as we would be looking at thousands of dollars more to use them, are original consultant told us the same thing. Robina with the $4851 you got back do you know how many sqm's that was for? Our prestart meeting is tomorrow so if I find out anything useful I will let you know or if there is anything you want me to ask for you I'm happy to.
