We are nearing the end of our house being built but are currently locked in a dispute with our builder about our front door. We supplied the locks and the handle to the builder and we just assumed the handle would be placed in the centre of the door. The builder has instead installed it on the top right of the door. Does anyone else feel like this is a really odd decision by our builder? We are annoyed as we weren't even consulted as to where the handles were going to be put. Re: Front door - new build - Adelaide 2Jun 23, 2016 10:57 pm I guess there are a few ways it could have gone. Interesting that they don't ask about it... TashPaul the lock height is fine where it is. What we had in mind (and everyone we have spoken to about it) was that the handle would be centred just to the left of the lock. The handle has been put up so high a 3-5 year old kid wouldn't even reach it. I would still ask/call or whatever just like they ask with the kitchen cupboards and stuff Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Front door - new build - Adelaide 6Jun 24, 2016 11:59 am Who are you building with Cook? I think it is Fairmont? Direct Interiors specify that you can't have a handle bigger than 450mm so ours will be installed like yours but your handle looks much bigger than 450mm? The lock is to be at a height of 900mm for 2040mm doors. The other option is to have the handle on the inside of the lock but for them to do this the door needs to be 1200mm wide. I'm surprised they didn't ask though.... Re: Front door - new build - Adelaide 7Jun 24, 2016 12:33 pm MJT that is exactly how we thought it was going to be done. Wilko we are building with a small builder in Adelaide. Our handle is 600mm and the door is 1120 wide. We expected the handle to be on the inside of the lock as where it has been put it just looks silly and almost touching the top of the door. We have looked around and cannot see a handle of this size installed like this anywhere. Re: Front door - new build - Adelaide 9Jul 03, 2016 12:39 am It's a good looking handle. It's a shame they didn't give you a call just to check. Before reading your message I was like it looks good but after you point out the issue , it does look odd and also too high for short people like me. Perhaps you can call a lock smith or someone knows the legislation or rules in regard to how locks need to be installed ? That may have affected how the handle can be installed ? Good luck.
