Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 13, 2014 8:51 pm Hi Guys, Just need some opinions on amount of lighting. We decided to go with the Dormus 13w LED downlight as they seem to good in price and efficiency, Would this be too much light esp in the kitchen? and too little in the bedrooms? any suggestions or opinions are appreciated. Watt's don't mean as much as the lux output. Also angle of spread is important too, as a narrow beam won't light up much of the room, no matter how many lux the light might be. Re: Electrical Plan - Suggestions On LED Lighting 3May 13, 2014 9:47 pm Good choice. I really like the Domus LED's. Your lighting plan is sufficient, I'd have mine similar. Just make sure you have dimmer's fitted to the theater and main bedroom switches Re: Electrical Plan - Suggestions On LED Lighting 4May 13, 2014 9:51 pm According to ledbenchmark it is 800ish lumens with 90 degree angle for warm white. Do you think there is too much in the kitchen ? as I'm pretty much following what we've seen in the display homes... and a single one in the smaller bedroom seems a bit ambitious, just hope that one LED downlight is enough.. Re: Electrical Plan - Suggestions On LED Lighting 5May 13, 2014 10:18 pm I've yet to meet a person complain about too much light in their kitchen The more the better! One thing I'll suggest is having the kitchen bench switched separately to the 3 center downlights On the plan you provided, the bedroom lights are regular light fittings? One down light at 800 lumens will not be enough for a bedroom. 2 minimum, which my clients request quite often Re: Electrical Plan - Suggestions On LED Lighting 6May 14, 2014 7:30 am Sparky50 I've yet to meet a person complain about too much light in their kitchen The more the better! Its just if i use 2x downlights, not sure where to place it, diagonally? Mind you, the smaller bed rooms are 3.2ish by 3.6ish meters maximum, so not really that big. What do you reckon? Re: Electrical Plan - Suggestions On LED Lighting 7May 14, 2014 8:07 am Well my electrician told me that we only have to have one of a similar DL in bedrooms that size. I've lived in houses that have ridiculous amounts of downlights and it's just plain annoying. In a bedroom you're going in there to get dressed or to relax or to sleep. How much light is really required for that? And most people have bedside lamps. And if you or kids are using it during the day you probably don't need the light on anyway. Just my two cents. Like what has been done in the en suite. Either that or a nice round light fitting Re: Electrical Plan - Suggestions On LED Lighting 9May 14, 2014 9:31 pm I'm planning to put a single bigger downlight for each of the bedrooms, something like the DL16 or DL20 from wattsaver. The beam angle is 120 degrees and if it's too bright, just add dimmers. Otherwise, bedside lamps will supplement it if it's not bright enough. Re: Electrical Plan - Suggestions On LED Lighting 10May 19, 2014 2:38 pm I've installed some of these Domus 13w cool white LED downlights in my parents place. They are surprisingly very bright with the 120 degree light spread. Here's a quick snap of our loung/junk room (excuse the mess) after I replaced the two centre lights with the 13w led. Room would be around 5x4 metres. Still need to replace the 6 others in the room, their on separate circuits, so it gives you a good indication of the light output. I'll be putting the after handover of my house build. What was the original light fitting ? And I thought these were 90 degree angle.
