Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Doing it again 321Feb 02, 2017 7:19 pm Agh, that's a pain! I managed to get the builder to include painting but it required a bit of haggling. My folks encouraged me to try and get the builder to do it... probably because they knew I'd rope them in to helping me out Had one builder quote about $6k for internal wall paint! Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 Re: Doing it again 322Feb 02, 2017 9:36 pm Had the painting included in the last house - got charged $5000 if i recall correctly. Plus I don't think the walls were sealed properly as the paint started bubbling within the 1st 12 mths. Some sections had to be sanded and re-painted. Most of it was in the master bedroom and there was no moisture from guttering or anything to cause it. So i decided this time around i'd do it myself. On a positive note, dad & i have completed the first coat of paint in all the rooms except the laundry & main toilet. Poor Dad had to call it quits early today because his back was hurting too much. He'll be back next weekend to help finish off. First coat of paint - living area Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My side gate was put up today too. Now, i have my keys and am halfway through painting my (not so) little house. There is soooo much cutting in to do. It's taking me approx 1 hour to do a room. There is light at the end of the tunnel though. Getting my crossover paved this Saturday. Moving on Monday. Then the rest of the paving will be starting on Tuesday. Must get my mailbox this week (with the cash & bunnings gift cards i got from family for my bd - thanks fam). Clothesline & shed will have to wait until my on-call allowances come through. View thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83776&start=80 Yay! Lots to chip away at post-move but you'll get there. Painting is such a tedious job, but once done you'll no doubt be thankful for the money you've saved! I hope you're using the cutting in tool with the wheels? They're a massive time saver (just have to keep the paint off the wheels otherwise you unintentionally start painting your cornices and door frames). I think yours was the one with the Colorbond side gate, is that right? I'll need to do the same down the track so looking forward to seeing a pic of yours! Hi Imightbedave, yep i got a colorbond side gate to matxh the fence: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Yes, i swear by those wheeled pads for painting cornices. Been using them for years now. The pads have seen better days so bought some new ones the other day - not as good as the orignal pads that came with it imo. So am having to use an old pad, a small brush & steady hand to get right into the crevices. Have to say am not doing too badly either although its not perfect. Haven't done any painting today because after getting bugger all sleep last night, my body felt like it was 100 years old! But gave ne an opportunity to get some other jobs done. So pavers ordered for delivery by Friday. Thanks to my paving guy, i managed to score a discount of $600 on the pavers. Winning! Antenna to be installed tomorrow afternoon. Council bins were delivered today. Ss paid a visit to see how things were going - pointed out that a leak at the water meter still hadn't been fixed. He said he'd get the plumber to look at it again today. And the sparky came to fix a couple of loose batten light fittings. I have to dig a trenchdown one aide of the house to put a conduit down for the retic for the back yard. Not looking forward to doing that. Wondering who i can con into doing it for me.... So that's today's news. Makes it so much better at the end though - knowing it's all you! (And Dad)... I like your gate. House is looking good! Its all happening over there... makes me think I'll have to take more than one day off when we get our keys.... Also - bonus about your paving saving! Must be tiring but also satisfying seeing how much you are getting done! For a house that size there sure is a heck of a lot of cutting-into do. Tomorrow i will tackle the linen cupboard, broom cupboard & pantry. The antenna was installed this afternoon, along with 2 tv points. I've booked the moving truck & the carpet cleaners for the rental. Aside from sore feet and back, i'm a bit bruised & battered after i slipped off the ladder & tumbled into the bathtub Thankfully i've got some Voltaren for the aches & pains View thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83776&start=80 Building SOR with Dreamstart Homes Customised Dream Dior/Summer Sensation https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83776 Re: Doing it again 331Feb 12, 2017 1:53 pm So painting is done! Well except the front hall which will be finished off after i've moved my furniture. I've started moving all my kitchen, pantry & linen cupboard contents in already. Just taking a break as my feet are killing me. I'll need to mop the floors again. Still looking dirty. My crossover was completed yesterday. Yay! Paver will be back on Wednesday to do the paving at the back. Even said they'd dig the trench for my retic conduit to the back. Yay. He did the paving at my previous place & did a very good job. Am happy to recommend him - pm me for details. Couple of photos: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 1 more sleep until i'm living in my new house.
