Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 17, 2016 4:20 pm Wondering if anyone who has built with Metricon stayed with their cooling system... Some tell me evaporative cooling is great...others not.... At the moment we have a decent air con system (refrigeration) $11,000 worth in our house which covers all rooms...so bit spoilt.... Our next house will be 25 squares...current house is 30 squares.... Looking to down size as one Lad has moved out of home.....anyone???:) Re: metricon's evap cooling system.. 2Jun 17, 2016 5:13 pm Evap can be very good for cooling dependent on location. If you're in an are that is typically humid - forget it. If you're in an area that has the occasional humid day/night you should be OK and you could consider split reverse cycles in the bedrooms to ensure a good nights sleep. Main issue is flexibility. If you want central heating then best to forget the evap and go with a fully ducted reverse cycle system otherwise you're going to be stuck with getting a separate ducted gas heating system installed or having portable gas heaters - an expensive option. Re: metricon's evap cooling system.. 3Jun 17, 2016 5:37 pm I know of quite a few people (Melbourne) who have regretted wasting their money on evaporative and have ended up having to install spilt systems.
