Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 15, 2023 2:27 pm I moved into my new home built by a small boutique builder in Adelaide 10 months ago. The build itself was great, builder awesome to deal with, no major blow outs and overall quality of trades was fantastic - except for the finishing and painting. The painting is very rough and the cutting in around glass and door frames is exceptionally poor. Ceilings are square set and there is an obvious line where the wall meets the ceiling due to poor cutting in as well a few other minor defects including the toilet door lower then the frame. I have contacted the builder many times and they are refusing to come back as they think it's acceptable. They also have not completed the 3 monthly defect check. See attached pictures - am I expecting too much? Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I do next. Thanks. Interestingly my original quote was for a square cornice, builder made a "deal" with gyprocker for square set ceiling to offset price increase in the gyprock. Re: Finishing quality of new build - painting 4Mar 15, 2023 3:18 pm paint is one of those things that gets done poorly all the time. SOme of the prep work clearly wasn't done and looks overall rushed/messy. Pretty sure many of those will fall out of tolerance. The square set is strange - its as if youve got light reflecting of the surface? is it just siliconed or is the paint used the wrong paint (ie gloss)? The square set is where the wall paint meets the ceiling paint, the sheen is the light reflecting the poor cutting in. On some parts of the ceiling in other rooms they have touched up the ceiling using the wall paint which has a slight sheen and then used the ceiling paint to touch up the walls. It just looks awful! I also paid for 3 coats and yet there are patches in the bathroom that have been completely missed. It has been a disappointing end to an otherwise great build. Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 7005 Hi, Have used the Dulux 1 step, oil base on my walls(white set), out of can it’s already a more thinner product than a final coat paint Also in water base Water or… 3 5025 Thanks mate, is there a standard off the shelf type breathable product I can apply DIY?
