Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2016 6:37 pm We are building our new 2 story home with bedrooms upstairs and living areas down. We are only concerned about sound originating DOWNstairs travelling UP to the bedrooms (i.e. things like normal conversation and making breakfast quietly in the kitchen). Sound going DOWN (foot-fall etc) is not a concern. In light of this, can anyone give me an indication of whether simply having bulk insulation between the joists and a double layer of plasterboard on the ceiling will generally stop these kinds of sounds from disturbing people sleeping in the rooms above? I know the standard recommendation is to include some sort of isolation, e.g. resilient mounts/channels, but we're trying to avoid these for a number or reasons. Is what we are proposing likely to do the trick? Re: Acoustic insulation between floors. Will this do the tri 2Jun 15, 2016 3:48 am Yes if sound (eg voice) is your only concern then key is bulk - hence dense insulation and more Gyprock or even better acoustic Gyprock also. For our house I did double insulation. Between joists and below joists. Our ceiling was suspended. Also used resilient mounts for foot travel. Obviously resilient mounts won't be useful for you.
