Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 13, 2016 3:50 pm Hi All, Wanting to do our floorboards (and carpet) with PD after handover and need to make sure I write specific things into the contract. How did you deal with the differences in floor height between wet and dry areas? Did you increase the height of your kitchen benches to ensure that they weren't too low? Did it affect your doors and you needed to have them changed? We're most likely going with solid timber, so need approx 30mm tolerance. We'll get them to very loosely fix the archs and skirts on if they won't leave them off, and I guess we may need quad around the island depending on the installers. Any advice appreciated. Re: Floors after handover - what should I know? 2Jun 13, 2016 5:10 pm Our builder set the skirtings to correct height for carpet and fixed to wall. For the hardwood they only pinned the skirts temporarily and our floor installer took them off and then affixed afterwards. Flooring installer put the trim around the cabinets. We didn't adjust heights of cabinets as floor only 12mm. For wet areas the builder set the levels for the corresponding floor heights based on what we were installing. All worked out perfectly. Re: Floors after handover - what should I know? 3Jun 14, 2016 9:43 am Thanks Jays. Out of interest, what was your hardwood floor? What surface were they installing onto - and did you have to put any sublayer down to attach to? 12mm seems really manageable. For solid timber onto slab, we've been told we need either ply or dowel to attach to to avoid moisture etc. 2 4680 3 5588 Old Home Restoration / Renovation To reduce noise transfer without compromising the aesthetic of your exposed I beams, consider filling the 100mm gap between the I beams and the floor above with dense,… 6 9146 |
