Building A New House

Day 5 of Defects:
Painters have been back to sand back the doors they weren't happy with and repaint them but have clearly used a super coarse sandpaper because there are now incredibly visible scratches on the face surfaces of the doors they have 'fixed'. Even now that they have been painted with a final coat the scratches are visible...It's a ******* joke!!! I'm that over the whole drama I could cry...and no doubt the MIV will pretend not to see it just so he can finish the job off and be done with it.
Therefore it'll leave us to take the doors off and sand them back (using finer sandpaper) and repaint them ourselves...What a joke!!! Welcome to Clarendon everyone!!!

Painters have finished patching the cracks in the external cladding and repainted so can tick that off the list
They are due back this coming weekend to sand back the scratched doors and repaint them - I think there's about 8 in total that need redoing
I rang the brick consultant and he advised that he has passed it on to his managers at Clarendon to deal with - Not sure what that will mean in terms of getting the testing on the soft mortar done.
Winning Appliances are also getting back to me about the ******* range hood and getting that serviced by Electrolux so that's also pending still.
Stegbar are ordering the correct door blade thing so that both doors now look the same as well as supplying the top and bottom caps that they forgot to install so that's still pending and I've also been advised that the guy I was told would be attending to look at our noisy doors will now be replaced by a service technician who is going to service them I guess...
And so we continue...

Seriously over these incompetent painters!!! They have come back a 3rd time because they can't seem to get the finish on one of our doors right, which also brings into question their skills and knowledge as painters.
They have no finished the door and this is the finished product we are left with - even more scratches than before, uneven finishes and it appears that there are even sections where they've completely missed the gloss paint and the matte undercoat can be seen... I'm done with having them screw things up so just told them to leave...

Thanks Vannpaul...It's honestly taking every little bit of strength to not crumble but I think I'm at the point now where Clarendon need to answer for the way that they do business. We're over a year into living in the house and are still having issues and discovering more problems. If I would've known Clarendon were going to be like this, we would've looked elsewhere.
your resilience is inspiring !!! hang in there, we're just about to submit our 90 day list
I ended up getting a call from my MIV after sending an email explaining the situation, providing photos and copying in the manager. It quickly became very aggressive from his side and I had to pull him up several times for his aggression and tone. Needless to say I was also informed that once again our file would be forwarded to the Legal department who would be advising due to this situation. I was also audience to a verse of how amazing these painters are, how many positive reviews they have and also how many awards they have received. I spoke to the owner of the painting company and he said he had only been running the business for a few years and before that he was a builder or something else in construction... I'm sorry but that doesn't sound like lots of experience to me - and the MIV also started talking about being an apprentice and making mistakes and having to fix them which makes me wonder of the young bloke who messed up the doors is just that, an apprentice...he also dropped once again that he had done work for a high ranking person at Fair Trading and these painters had painted and he was extremely happy with the results which lead them to become good personal friends.
The conversation ended with the MIV advising that the door would be replaced so Clarendon could just move on with the other items.
I've since sent an email to both the MIV and the manager asking for clarification as to whether legal was getting involved. This has been the 2nd time legal has been threatened with the MIV but probably the 4th time legal has been mentioned since we had the site meeting with the Area Manager during construction.

Round 3 of the door saga continues!!!
We've gotten our new door but in the process of painting it the painter has managed to get paint on his shoe which he then proceeded to walk on our driveway.
In trying to fix it I busted him pouring pure turps onto the affected part which could potentially eat our clear coat off the driveway again, meaning it'll have to be revealed AGAIN! SERIOUSLY sick of the constant uphill battle to have the quality of house we were promised we would get when we got our tender drafted...
And to make matter worse he told a completely different story straight to our MIVs face and said he never used turps on the driveway and that what I saw was him pouring water on it because he knew he had clearly messed up...Mind you him and the MIV were talking in a different language for 10 mins or so when the MIV first arrived on site so who knows what was being discussed...funny that he suddenly changed his story after they had spoken...So it's now his word against mine...

Well today has been an emotional rollcoaster of drama and dramatics - and not from us either!
First of all the same painter in the last crew showed up and I questioned it with the MIV. Was told this guy was an independent and had no ties to the company that messed up our last set of doors, even though he was working with them and being driven around by the boss when they had to duck to other jobs...
I've had our MIV tell me he's going to hand in his resignation today because this job has him so stressed, that his boss has been riding him so hard to the point where he might use the mental health services Clarendon provide their employees. I've been told that I have every right to complain and state my concerns when previously it's been implied that we are just complaining for the sake of it and then that I should raise more issues in the portal for fixing.
I've been told my MIV's life story of how he has a wife and kids to support yet he has a $17 million dollar property he has sold to Lendlease to subdivide so doesn't need to work but does it because he enjoys it...the stories just go on and on...
So while we the owners have been dealing with drama after drama it is us who should feel sorry for the MIV who is stressed and had enough of the job...he's had countless nights of sleep and is having next week off to contemplate his life choices and next move with the company because his stress and anxiety is that bad...am I the only one who sees issue in this and the fact a customer is being told this? Anyone would think he's the one who's paid $400k+, not us!!!
Not only was I having to listen to his sob stories about stress etc but I also listened to several rounds of the blame game - the painters are to blame, the SS who oversaw construction is to blame, the Area Manager is to blame...And so it went. I finally had had enough and cut him off by saying that it was irrelevant which individual was to blame and that whoever stepped foot on the property, subcontractor or not, was representing Clarendon. At the end of the day it needs to be fixed without having to fight for it and deal with continual resistance.
He then continued his conversation by saying that I should go to the effort of lodging on the portal that the hinges have been painted over and that the current oil enamel has already started to yellow...he also said that should Clarendon offer to render our property that we should accept straight away as it'd be a pretty good deal. In hushed tones I was advised that he too had grave concerns about the condition of our mortar and agreed with us 100%. He said if we left it in 5 - 10 years we'd have no house because the mortar would all be worn away.
It was a day of good cop, bad cop combined in the same person...

Surprise surprise, the painter never showed today to finish the job! Was meant to be here at 8 and never even bothered letting us know he's no longer coming...
No doubt there'll be an interesting note on our file, which the MIV has advised is quite sizeable for our job...
He's now shown up an hr after he said he would be here and just walked into our house without even bothering to ring the doorbell - I thought I had locked the screen door but clearly not...
He had the exact same paint set up as yesterday so I asked him to move it and he started arguing with me promising that no paint would be spilled on our driveway again. I told him I don't care what he thinks won't happen because clearly yesterday he wasn't intending on spilling it either...got to love when the trades argue with you!
Now that he's left we've had a chance to look at his handywork since he spent over 1hr painting only 1 door...needless to say we're in shock - Clearly anyone can pick up a paintbrush and call themselves a painter. The door is clearly covered in that many layers of paint it's going to take more than a day to touch dry, he's rolled his roller both vertically and horizontally leaving a nice checked pattern in the finish and he's also managed to roll fluff and all types of things in the door... I'm over it!
According to Fair Trading it's considered a defect if you can see any issues like brush strokes and lines from normal standing distance, being 1.5m...So looks like things are going to have to start getting a little more serious!
