I haven't met her yet as she doesn't live in perth My father in law has alzheimers (sp), which is sad because my in-laws are wonderful people... and they live next door. We try to see the bright side and not get upset about his questions (hes obsessed about a torch my husband borrowed about 30yrs ago), so far hes still at home. When we first discussed a KDR, we discussed moving in next door, even a caravan next door but decided that would break any healthy relationship. CB, we will have 3 spare bedrooms but hubby has declared that the entire upstairs will be known as "Hubby-name Land" and no one will be allowed to stay over night/move in. I said we needed at least one spare room, he said if no one has asked to stay with us for the last 20yrs, why would they start now. I don't think I would be able to handle a MIL like yours Re: Charlibear's Build with GJ Gardner 872Aug 19, 2016 10:33 am I found a new place for lighting.......aliexpress. I have used them for other things but had never thought to look at lighting until I read it somewhere else on this forum. As long as you check its Australia standards its all good and basically you cut out the middle man and buy direct from China. I found this one you had liked before CB Rope Pendant Light Look at the prices!!! I think poor hubby is about to become more poorer as I browse - I could basically have a new pendant in my kitchen each week to match my mood. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Charlibear's Build with GJ Gardner 873Aug 19, 2016 10:39 am Ive bought of Aliexpress before, never thought to use them for the house! Wonder if I will need to set up a bank guarantee or something because I doubt they start builds just on the owners say so they will pay. And Charli, dont forget to get copies of everything. If you dont already have a scanner/printer/copier at home, something to think about. We picked ours up from Big W for about $150, very handy. Yes, that is tricky! what if someone shows the fund in bank acc, sign the contract, start the build and withdraw all the money and spend/disappear... The builder would except some kind of guarantee that the money will be available till the end of build... I'm in the same situation, I will be using my own funds for the build. I offered proof of funds & stat decs but they are getting their preferred broker to get in touch to arrange pre approval even though I don't want finance. I thought it was a bit strange but apparently it is normal process. Re: Charlibear's Build with GJ Gardner 875Aug 19, 2016 12:10 pm I can relate, my mum has dementia, mild to moderate. Its very tough mentally for all of us as a family. I feel for my poor dad who has to look after her everyday. They live in sydney and all but one sister live up here in qld with me, so im trying to convince my dad to sell up and move here so we can all be closer. My only concern would be to make sure it meets australian standard and how much is postage/delivery. Researching split home designs for our KDR downward sloping block Re: Charlibear's Build with GJ Gardner 878Aug 19, 2016 2:20 pm They even have a app. I have had 2 no shows and like you splits, I just claimed refund and money back in 24 hours. I order heaps from them. I agree, make sure it does Aussie standards and check postage - otherwise it's a great way to save. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Charlibear's Build with GJ Gardner 879Aug 19, 2016 2:24 pm Also use ali express, and light in the box is another great app for shopping. Wanted to get my pendants from those places but didnt want to risk the "non aussie standards" in case something failed. Theyre great with refunds.
