Just wondering what is the size of your backyard as I might have something similar. Cheers Thanks! It's 6m x 16m at the back, 4m x about 15m on the garage side and 1.8m x about 20m on the other side My Phoenix by Metricon in Melbourne viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83584&p=1570829&hilit=my+phoenix+by+metricon+in+melbourne#p1570829 Re: My Metricon Phoenix in Melbourne 547May 11, 2017 9:28 pm Renman Good progress Jason. Do you a photo of what you are wanting it to look like? I drew it myself by hand so not really, but I did have some reference photos to help re the paving down the side. Key for me was simple, low maintenance not to look like everyone else's garden beds around the perimeter hence I did boxes instead. I love garden beds all around the back and sided. With ferns and river rocks would look nice there. viewtopic.php?t=86597 Re: My Metricon Phoenix in Melbourne 549May 12, 2017 5:56 am I like your thinking with the planter boxes. We did everything in the wrong order because we desperately just wanted turf so we left about 60cm edge around the entire perimeter of the yard for gardens. That's about 75 metres of garden!! Having heart palpitations thinking of it. I much prefer your idea. C U S T O M. C O R A L. The fern idea is a good one, my parents did that maybe 15 years ago with their home and they're huge and look great. I've gone down a natives route because I really wanted low maintenance and resilient plants but again I will probably prop them up with something more substantial down the track....if I had a few thousand more, would have done it all now My Phoenix by Metricon in Melbourne viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83584&p=1570829&hilit=my+phoenix+by+metricon+in+melbourne#p1570829 Re: My Metricon Phoenix in Melbourne 551May 12, 2017 7:51 am MrsJM I like your thinking with the planter boxes. B R O N T E. 43 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=79581 That's a lot of garden beds but I'm sure it will look awesome! Most of the landscapers I met with suggested the same as you've done, lay capping all way round and do garden beds but I wanted something a bit different. I'm working from home today and will get to see the guys do the turf (I've been travelling all week so haven't seen anything but made the landscaper send me photos on progress:-)) Actually with the yard levelled and clean, it's suprising how big it actually feels/is! That's the great thing about gardening. You can still add things that would make it look great if it doesn't work out the way you want to begin with. With building you can't so easily add or redesign. After it's done it's done. viewtopic.php?t=86597 Re: My Metricon Phoenix in Melbourne 553May 12, 2017 11:59 am jasonwg Doulton777 You could do a lot with that yard. We have river rocks here. I love them. Very contemporary. But they are expensive. You would have spent already heaps on your house. At least you can do it later if you decide. I think the Tuscan will still look nice. viewtopic.php?t=86597 Re: My Metricon Phoenix in Melbourne 554May 12, 2017 4:59 pm Thanks for the comments everyone...it's getting closer to being finished now. To be honest, I'm a little underwhelmed by the plants (but I know they'll grow) and they got wrong how I wanted the pavers and planter box (needs 1 more down the side & pavers the whole way along, plus the Tuscan is just too orange) but overall it's a whole lot better than mud so I should be happy!
