Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 29, 2016 3:47 pm Hi Everyone, After a couple weeks reading through everybody's blogs, I thought i would start my own. Our journey started in May last year when we purchased a block of land within a short stroll from beautiful Lake Macquarie on the NSW Central Coast. A lot of prep work had to be done before we could start building, ie clear 10 huge trees, remove approx 40 square meters of rubbish which had accumulated on the block over the years, remove four sheds from the back left hand corner of the block which were also full of rubbish, you name it we found anything and everything on this bit of dirt we had bought. In one of the sheds there was a shower and toilet cubicle connected to water, sewer and electricity. On the back right of the block was a garage with an awning attached and paved area underneath. Luckily for us we were able to sell the sheds, toilet, shower, awning and pavers, (whats the old saying one mans trash is another mans treasure LOL.) The cash from this paid for our rear fence, initially we were going to pull down the garage as well but after seeing the quality of the slab and the garage construction we decided to keep it and clad, paint it the same colour as the house. According to our kids (five of them) the garage is going to be split into two sections the back third will be for my tools and gardening equipment and their half ( I don't know how that's fair) A kids retreat / gym which will open up to the pool area. Anyway enough with the boring intro we are building the Glendale 41 with Isla facade and are currently 15 weeks into the build, everything is going to plan all of our trades have been great and our site supervisor is not only a top bloke but awesome at his job as well. Roller blinds and or shutters pro's and con's for both any suggestions would be great cheers Metricon Glendale 41 Our Journey 16May 31, 2016 9:37 am Hey G41 Have a look at Franky40 's thread, we were just talking about blinds yesterday! Re shutters, I'll be putting those in the bathrooms, powder room and front living room! My Metricon Glendale in Sydney. Metricon Glendale 41 Our Journey 18May 31, 2016 9:11 pm I love shutters but they are dearer than roller blinds. I want shutters right throughout my whole home excluding the stacker doors. I think shutters look beautiful from the outside and of course inside. In the end for me I know it will be the $$ that decide Re: Metricon Glendale 41 Our Journey 19May 31, 2016 9:30 pm We are leaning towards roller blinds for the majority of the house and having shutters at the front, you are right the dollar difference is a fair bit and will ultimately decide for us also Re: Metricon Glendale 41 Our Journey 20Jun 01, 2016 6:34 pm Nice to hear everything has gone super smooth for you so far.
