I was just wondering if any other women have had similar experiences to me? During the walk around to all the display homes was anyone blatantly ignored or experienced inappropriate comments by the usually male sales people? I noticed that I was ignored most of the time - particularly when it came down to talking about $$$$ One sales person even said "why would you need a study when your partner is in the RAAF?" I said because I actually need one as I am a professional and work too!!!! Needless to say we didn't build with that company...I was too busy storming to the car calling all the salesmen sexist pigs!!! If only they realised who REALLY wears the pants!!! Maybe I am over reacting...or have a VERY thin skin Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: A question for all the women out there... 2Jul 30, 2008 11:01 pm I will say that I had noticed that when we were doing the display home circuit they would talk to me rather than to both DW and I. I would have to bring DW into the conversation....stupid really...we're a partnership they'd have to convince both of us not just me.
Also I noticed that this behavior was common for both male or female sales reps. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: A question for all the women out there... 3Jul 30, 2008 11:10 pm The smart sales reps will talk to the women more. I used to sell cars (don't shoot me.. it was better than the dole at the time), and the first thing they taught me was, don't sell to the husband, sell to the wife. The wife has more say, and is more emotionally invested than the man. Any sales person that assumes the man makes the decisions is in for a shock! Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! I read somewhere - probably on the net so it must be true (YakChat, 2008) - that the AU Falcon was a poor seller because women hated the looks of it, no matter what the husband thought of it. Lesson - making family cars, do your research. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: A question for all the women out there... 6Jul 31, 2008 9:54 am Our salesman was clever, he realised right away who called the shots
Yep Joles is right I thought it was fairly common knowledge that the woman usually has more influence over the final decision than the man. Hi Kyiee81 Don't have any experiences with display homes, but I didn't want to blatantly ignore you, and I will refrain from my usual inappropriate comments! Cheers! Ash. Re: A question for all the women out there... 10Jul 31, 2008 11:14 am I don’t have much of this experience, because most of the time, only me visiting the display homes, so they have to talk to me
But I must admit that if they really ignore me, then they won’t have my business Some of my friends keep telling me that ‘don’t argue with your money’, but I would rather to spend a little more to get better and satisfied services than the cheapest one Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: A question for all the women out there... 11Jul 31, 2008 11:22 am Kyiee
Yep, you have a point. I loathe, detest, hate and abhor looking at houses! Missus loves it more than life itself! But what really makes me mad is that when she drags me off to look at a house, we get in the door and she races off before signing in and leaves me there to be chatted up by the agent: "Are you looking for a house for yourselves or as an investment?" [thought: mate, I'm just looking for peace!] And to add insult to injury, in the car she turns on me and snarls "what did you have to say that for? Why didn't you shut up? Now they'll know what we can afford (or something). I breach her strategy in some way. Seriously, I now say to the agent: "I'm under orders to shut up". I think they find the situation a little disconcerting. But, one salesman at a display home said to us (me and my husband) "if you want to build with us, you need money" !!! I didn't mind his comment that much, but DH never walked into that display home again, and needless to say, we didn't build with them. How hilarious. Makes me realise how difficult I must make it for DH . Your partner and I have a lot in common lol. Our builder was the salesman and did a great job of engaging both of us. Just as well as I wouldn't put up with the alternative . To say you guys do not need a study is ludicrous, firstly you are aprofessionsl hence have definite need, he is RAAF aso no dought will be studying , I know I spent 5 years studying engineering and awhole range of other courses and we converted one of the bedrooms in the MQ into a study. Yes, contrary to public opinion RAAFies do study etc! My partner is all the time "on course" it is a huge assumption... Quote: Oh by the way we sacked him and now have a female sales consultant who is handling our account. We had a lot of trouble with various arrogant sales people in the beginning and we decided to do business with sales people nearly two hours from our house just so we could be satisfied at least with not being spoken to like we don't know anything (we are building for the first time)...guess what she is a woman! We looked past the fact that she was only new in the job as she sits with an experienced sales person, what we go to her for is at least she has pleasant service Quote: who are you thinking of building with? We are building with Perry Homes the seville 290 with some modifications, my partner is away with all the photos of our block on his camera phone at the moment. Our plans are just about to go into council if Head office pull their finger out!!!! Although, if you read one of my other posts "cold feet" I am slightly concerned about whether we are doing the right thing, although I am thinking the experience of building a home can be so exciting (fingers crossed) so I think we will just through caution to the wind!!!
