Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 12, 2015 5:37 pm Hi All
I have been a long time peep and I thought now was time to stat a post of my own. A brief overview of us we are empty nesters (YAY!!!!) trying to build our forever home. We have a block and an old beach shack in Perth. I'll try to make a very long story short pls bear with me. Xmas 2013 OB (Old Boy.. other half) gave me an envelope inside was a basic plan for our new house with a boutique builder, goody I have been waiting for a VERY LONG TIME. After some changes we signed a PPA and handed over a deposit of $14.5k ouch! We were told to demolish the house asap so things could move fast so we did. Plans got drawn up we had 3 prestarts, trying to get any pricing for changes was a nightmare e.g. stacking doors 4 weeks for price really!! The prestart girl was new and had no idea and when we challenged her on a couple of things it was painful. We were to sign the final contracts in Aug14 when we get there they add another 10k that they said had been forgotten so we wouldn't sign and lost our money. After a lot of internet searches and phone calls we met with Switch Homes they were really great we were going on a holiday o/seas so after a lot of haggling WE TAKE NO CRAP ANYMORE we signed with them at about 2pm sept 5th and hopped on a plane at 9pm. Up to date we have signed our final contract we are just waiting on the errors to be changed on the plans not many. Thank you for reading. I will post our plans and selections next. Im also building with Switch and have finalised all plans and just waiting on titles for blocks (any day now...). Are you building single or 2 storey? Hi Valdez1 another switch home yah!! We are building a 2 storey we have knocked down our home. We have massive siteworks I'm really looking forward to watching your build do you have a thread I can follow. How have you found them so far? We signed our final VO yesterday they just made some silly errors on the final plans. Re: Our Build: things can only get better 9Apr 14, 2015 9:43 pm Hi Petad, yeh not many switch builders on this forum, so its glad to see another one too! I agree they have made some silly errors, but Im putting this down to simple human error/ oversight/ overworked employees!! Our design consultant was fab and I still keep in contact with them should I have an issue and its dealt with rather swiftly. Signed final plans about 4 weeks ago so we are just waiting on our titles for the block (should be this week) then its off to the council. They are one of the few builders who was willing to pretty much build me a custom house, without the custom price tag. So far so good so hoping this continues. Do you have some house plans to post? Would love to see them. Ill also get onto setting up a thread. Re: Our Build: Switch Homes Sorrento 10Apr 16, 2015 8:30 pm Well we are finally in construction (after 2 other builders, plans and permits!!!) I shall post our block and plans it is a demo on a very sloping block as you will no doubt see so there is a lot of site works . The house has been designed for the two of us not resale as the kids will probably knock it down when the get there hands on it we have no plans on moving. I am a fellow Switch 2 storey builder...nearing the end of our very long journey now. I would have done a thread but our story was just too complicated and I simply didn't have time for it! At least things are a bit slower in the industry now and you might have a shorter construction time frame than us.
