Yeah I hear you, we were originally going to do the same but I wanted a bulkhead above the overhead cupboards so dust & dirt wouldn't just sit up there. I too thought the full laundry fitout was expensive, and when I added the bulkhead, was oven higher A bit over $2k unfortunately, and that's before the upgrades - riven finish to overheads, 40mm stone benchtop & decor tiles as splashback.
