Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Williams Designer Homes build, West Wallsend NSW - Start 301Oct 14, 2016 7:14 am Drove past this morning, there was a small stack of bricks, a truck, a couple of tradies talking, and a little digger thing (the name escapes me). So it looks like there might be some progress today. Next door's cabinetry was being delivered too. Re: Williams Designer Homes build, West Wallsend NSW - Start 302Oct 14, 2016 4:58 pm We went back out after work today. We met the lady from next door, she seems lovely. We also had the pipes for our downpipes and the front tap installed today. I mean, my build is like slab and then frame and then brick wall but your build starting with the brick wall Ahh yeah, Tony was keen on building Matt a man cave under the house first Re: Williams Designer Homes build, West Wallsend NSW - Footi 315Oct 25, 2016 9:17 am Hi there we have bought a sloping block of land in cameron park, we have the option of levelling the land which increases our house design options. We are currently looking at montgomery and mojo. Although it sounds like you have had a great experience with williams. Can i ask was going with them much more expensive or about the same? We liked the look of mojo because of all the inclusions, but depending on how much others cost we could end up just doing the extras ourselves. Re: Williams Designer Homes build, West Wallsend NSW - Footi 316Oct 25, 2016 9:54 am Hey newwy, we didn't speak to Mojo but we did speak with Montgomery. The salesman we spoke to pushed us pretty hard to a split level house which wasn't what we wanted that was going to cost us approximately $100k more to build because of the extra site costs and other costs involved in building split level. My advice is to talk to a couple different project and custom builders to get a feel for who can do what you want. I'm not sure how much it will cost to level out our block because I guess it can vary depending on the block, but maybe Ryalls can give you an idea of how much it cost them. Basically Tony told us that building a single level house on piers will cost more than it would to build on a slab on a flat block, however the price difference would be ball park to what it would cost to retain the sloping block. If that makes sense. Like anything there are pros and cons to it; cons being that it takes a little longer and costs a little more (compared to a slab on a flat block), pros being that we have storage underneath and we haven't had to worry about altering the land to fit the house because the house fits the land. I've also heard that it could mean that plumbing and wiring in the future is easier to deal with because it's under the floor not through the ceiling. I hope that wasn't too much of an essay and it all makes sense, basically talk to everyone and ask the right questions. If you have a look of the Williams Designer Homes facebook page there is a video on how to choose a builder with what questions to ask. "we haven't had to worry about altering the land to fit the house because the house fits the land" Even some people go to the length of finalizing a house plan and then start looking for a land to fit that design.. Re: Williams Designer Homes build, West Wallsend NSW - Footi 318Oct 25, 2016 11:26 am Yeah I can't understand that way of thinking, what is the point of designing the perfect house if it won't fit nicely on your block? For example with our place, the deck is on the back left because that is where the view is but the next door neighbour has put it on the back right. They'll only be able to see the sunset if they are hanging out over their balcony. Re: Williams Designer Homes build, West Wallsend NSW - Footi 319Oct 25, 2016 12:43 pm Its looking Fab!!! Have they given you a rough timeframe of how long it takes to lay the bricks.. I know its obviously longer for you guys. Is your back deck on the same side as ours? I 'think' it is. We thought that about the neighbours too but then were out there one winter arvo and their decks had a lovely warm sun and ours was all shady and cold.. You cant win hahah _________________________ Building the Noosa 26 with Coral Homes https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80794 Re: Williams Designer Homes build, West Wallsend NSW - Footi 320Oct 25, 2016 1:03 pm Ryalls_first_build Its looking Fab!!! Hi Simeon, Thank you for laying it down for us. Makes sense. Appreciate it very much. Have a nice day.
