Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 07, 2016 7:37 am I'm in the process of selecting a wall colour and kitchen cabinetry colour for my new build, our builder has specified the colour can be any Dulux colour.
I am considering Dulux Antique White USA, Dulux Whisper White and Dulux White Dune Half. I plan to use Lexicon Half for the ceilings, stairs, architraves, doors and trims. Does anyone have any suggestions in regards to a nice Dulux White that works well with Lexicon Half? Any pics would be awesome too!! I normally don't like white houses (find boring and sterile) but AW USA is soft, mellow and warm ... And white! ? It's a lovely colour but I think it's a little too creamy on a bigger scale. Welcome to our new Metricon Henderson viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81978 https://metriconhenderson.wordpress.com Dulux Wall Colours 8May 08, 2016 7:49 am M and T - I have antique white USA in my old house with Dulux white for the ceiling and Whisper white with lexicon half ceiling in the new place. Both are very nice colours. Lexicon is a very cool white as it has blue undertones. I love the way whisper white (which is also more in the cool spectrum than a warm white) works well with the Lexicon half ceiling. The antique white is USA is a warm white it has red or yellow undertone from memory. So not sure how it will work with lexicon half. If you are keen on the Antique white USA I'd suggest you do with different colour for the ceiling. It also depends on how you are going to furnish the house. Our old place had warm colours like timber furniture, orange/red/Browns and caramel. So antique white USA was perfect. The new place has more greys and cooler colours so whisper white is the perfect choice. viewtopic.php?t=78985 Re: Dulux Wall Colours 9May 08, 2016 8:15 am Thanks Franky, I will look through your thread to see how the whisper white looks with the Lexicon Half ceilings, I think it would be a really good combo as the whisper white isn't really creamy like the Antique White USA. Thanks for the advice, it was really helpful, I can see you've done alot of research on this ☺️ Welcome to our new Metricon Henderson viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81978 https://metriconhenderson.wordpress.com Re: Dulux Wall Colours 10May 08, 2016 9:32 am M and T Thanks Franky, I will look through your thread to see how the whisper white looks with the Lexicon Half ceilings, I think it would be a really good combo as the whisper white isn't really creamy like the Antique White USA. I think Tribe used a really nice white too (can't remember the name). The other thing you also need to consider is the floor colour. Your wall and floor make most of your interior and need to work in harmony. I saw a place the other day with cool white marble looking tiles and cream coloured walls.....I had to keep biting my tongue so I did not say anything. This is my OCD playing up, it also bothers me when you have white overhead cupboards that don't blend in well with your white walls. If you have creamy white walls and pure white cupboards I think it makes the walls look dirty and vis-versa that's just my own weirdness as most people are fine with it. Good luck with the choices viewtopic.php?t=78985 Re: Dulux Wall Colours 11May 08, 2016 9:38 am M and T Thank you MinandB, the pictures are so helpful! Good luck in your search for the perfect white paint. The other thing to consider is lighting - both natural and artificial. If you prefer cool light globes, something like Lexicon will throw more blue than it otherwise might with that type of lighting, same with warm globes with a warmer white, can make them throw more yellow/cream. How much natural light enters a room will also affect the look of the colour. Re: Dulux Wall Colours 13May 08, 2016 12:18 pm Well I am going vivid white on doors and architraves and I think it is also on the ceiling. For walls I am using natural white that has a slight hint of yellow. Re: Dulux Wall Colours 14May 08, 2016 12:23 pm Sorry for jumping on thread. So is (vivid white) whiter than lexicon quarter? If we do go with cool light globes regardless of which white do these still throw more blues? Thanks viewtopic.php?t=79203 Re: Dulux Wall Colours 15May 08, 2016 12:37 pm Cool globes don't necessary throw blue by themselves, but they can accentuate anything that has a tendency to throw blue if that makes sense. Again, other items and furnishing in the room can also be factors. I'm a bit like Franky, I tend to really notice this stuff. A lot people probably don't notice it anywhere near as much. I currently have boards painted all over the place because I want a tinted white for the ceiling but I don't want the slightest hint of blue so I'm borderline bats**t crazy when it comes to paint. Lol! Re: Dulux Wall Colours 16May 08, 2016 12:41 pm I'm not sure whether this makes any difference to anyone, but we've noticed a slight shift away from cooler whites and into warmer whites as far as requests and sales at work. Not back into creams by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely into warmer whites and greys rather than cooler. Re: Dulux Wall Colours 17May 08, 2016 4:09 pm Thank you all, this is all very useful info! Emmz, I was told at the Dulux shop that Vivid White is the base for every white and then they add tints to change the colour. I don't know much about lights will interact with it unfortunately. I've ruled out Antique White USA so far, I really love it but I think it will clash with the Lexicon Half. I'm a big fan of Lexicon Half ever since I saw it on the Dulux Catalogue...
