Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 03, 2016 7:16 pm Hi, We are currently trying to decide whether soundproofing is worth it for a 2 level house. Question is whether some of you decided against it, and afterwards regretted the decision because of the excessive noise and similar, whether some of you installed it, but feel it didn't live up to expectation. Thanks, BelgianBuilder. Re: Soundproofing or not between floors 2May 03, 2016 9:43 pm We installed it and with 5 kids downstairs (our bedroom is upstairs) it seems to do something. Ask again in 10 years or so when they really get rowdy. We almost didn't do it but it came down to it costing much more to do if we didn't and then thought the place was too noisy. Re: Soundproofing or not between floors 4May 04, 2016 8:46 am What floor covering are you having upstairs ? If you are going for tiles or polished floorboards then you'd be crazy not to. It's the impact sound of a shoe on a hard surface that sends most of the noise downstairs. If your bedrooms upstairs will be above a common room like a lounge or home theatre then at a minimum I'd install Soundscreen batts to help reduce the excess sound. Stewie Stewie Re: Soundproofing or not between floors 5May 04, 2016 11:19 am I installed sound screen batts in the theatre ceiling and really stuffed it in there around the adjacent walls to stop bleed from the theatre but did not go across the entire floor. I am having polished boards on a concrete slab with a false ceiling on the ground floor. I expect there will be some noise. Re: Soundproofing or not between floors 6May 04, 2016 7:51 pm Thanks everyone for your reply. Flooring upstairs is carpet. We will go ahead and ask for sound batts to be installed above the common living areas.
