Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 27, 2016 9:07 pm Hi all! Have been lurking on the site while we prepare to build our first home. We purchased 3145 square metres of land in Marburg QLD in January after having no intention of doing do but came across it and fell in love then begged, borrowed and did a lot of extra shifts to put down our deposit and are the proud owners of a huge bit of land about 15 minutes out of Ipswich in QLD Being indecisive as I am, we have gone through every builder, I have checked every deal, compared every inclusion to the point where yesterday I cracked it and we signed a contract and put our deposit down. So we are waiting for our contract and expect it in two weeks. Here is what we envision our house will look like in the end. I know the worst is yet to come (but have hopes I will be supremely lucky and it will be pain-free.... ) HA! Ok, moving on! ..... lol Our land and house: We nixed the driveway, $11 grand we needed for other stuff, we can cope for the moment and will do it ourselves a bit later.... We are currently building fences on our land, post and rail for most borders, one of our neighbours wanted 6 foot high colour bond on one side...let's just say not what we wanted, but we did help build it because I am all about the neighbourly relations if I am living there for the next 10-20 years I sure as hell am not starting a fight now. We will be doing all we can to grow/place things along that fence to hide it as it's like the great wall of china lol. Ok, moving on from the fence it is all good....... Our back fence to keep the views Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The Great Wall Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have two crazy, crazy dogs so we will be creating a dog yard for them off the side of the house that butts up against the colourbond fence, otherwise we plan an open yard so we don't lose any views. We have kept most of the design of our new house the same, just made some small changes Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ These include, halving the study to make a walk in pantry. Double basins in the ensuite and a 1500 ml shower, took some wardrobes out and added a sliding door to bedroom 4 (Gonna be the dog room out to the yard!! yup, my dogs are the reason I bought this house hahaha) tinted windows.... a few other small things. Not much will happen for a few weeks but we hope to be slab down in June if things go well and I will make sure to update as much as possible!! We just moved to SE QLD 8 months ago (on a whim) and are working in Ipswich, it is 40 minutes from Brisbane and we have travelled north, east , south and west over our weekends and can't believe how close are to everything and coming from Sydney we are really stoked and amazed to get 3/4 of an acre for a really low price...very happy Follow our 3/4 Acre SEQ Build https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83036&p=1542742#p1542742 Re: Our "almost" acreage build in South East QLD 2Apr 27, 2016 9:09 pm Sorry guys am updating pics now.....did the wrong link! We are in the fairways at hattonvale just up the road and almost at pci I believe. Your land looks amazing!! Wow! we looked at the fairways!! After we bought hahahah...... so exciting, do you have a build thread? You would be on at least an acre there yeah? I am very excited someone else is building the sc216 as I haven't seen any on here before, have you had a good experience? I really am very excited for you!! I figured building in Marburg I would be lucky to hear of anyone near by so thats amazing, I look forward to hearing all about how you guys have gone! HAHAAH. You just make a photobucket account. Would love to see your pics!! Happy to help if needed. We actually toured around Hatton Vale and were a bit jealous about the land sizes etc but because we work in Ipswich and my hubby is a chef, he finishes late at night and we wanted to be as close to Ipswich as possible so he is not driving too far. We might have even seen your house build if it is almost finished, as it wasn't long ago!! How funny!! We have gone through Hallmark at Springfield. Fred. At first I was a bit "oh we haven't hear from him much...." But after having daily phone calls from other builders dealing with tiles and tiny little changes I was over it, in the end i appreciated the silence from Hallmark!! hahah I really hope we have a good run...fingers crossed! So you don't need to pay 50% of his colourbond fence, just 50% of the value of a 'standard fence'. It may not be a full acre, but you'll be fine with it. I had researched all of this when I was getting ready to go all NOPE on their butts....LOL. At this stage I think maybe they are going to let it go btu either way as we contributed to building the fence we also have that in our corner. They are lovely people and I am sure we can work out something reasonable between us The funny thing is, we were aiming to buy lots of acres, then decided we didn't need lots of acres, but already am going WE NEED MORE LAND!! hahahah.... It is a wonderful starting point and I have had a case of the "It's not enough, the house isn't big enough, the land isn't either, OMG NOTHING IS BIG ENOUGH! Then have to realise that me and hubby and the dogs are it, we are planning some chickens and have no use for all those things you dream up in your head lol. I am just a bit over excited! I just came across this forum, and we are building the same house with hallmark, with almost the exact same modifications. Bizarre! We are doing the same as you with our study, halving it to become a WIP, double basin and bigger shower. We put down our initial deposit 2 weeks ago, and we are skipping the first stage and going straight to contract so we can get it moving as soon as possible. We sold our last home, and are now living at the in-laws while we build. Our land is in Buccan, half way between Brissy and the Gold Coast, we love it there. We have just over 5000q metres. Very exciting. Re: Our "almost" acreage build in South East QLD 11May 11, 2016 7:06 pm rose_2 Tigerstripes These include, halving the study to make a walk in pantry. I have convinced hubby to let me turn the study into a walk in aviary for our birds!! hahahahaha You have a nice sized block of land too. Let me know when you start a thred (or if you have) so I can follow. We sign our contract on Saturday, so very exciting!!
