The quality of the actual build is (in my opinion) brilliant and so far we've had no problems apart from one minor error which is already in the process of being corrected. Yes, occasionally it is frustratingly slow but I think that'll be the same of any builder (and really, it's simply a personal frustration because we're so anxious to see everything come together.) If you want my advice, take your time with the drawings and selections - the less you change DURING the build the better (from a cost and time perspective.) Do you have a build thread yet? It's starting to feel very real and very exciting. STOKED with that!! We went through all our tile selections - the kitchen tiles are the wrong size (100x300mm instead of 100x200mm) so he's taking care of that and will make sure the tiler doesn't use them. The bathroom tiles are all ready to go and while I love the colours I'm still unsure about the shower hob/bath riser configuration. I think that's probably one of those things we'll just not be entirely sure on until it's done. The only issue that has come up is the metal lintels above the windows on the exterior. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ At our pre-start when we went through all the paint selections, we were told the "External Metal" part of our paint selection comprised of the meter box. According to the SS, it actually comprises the lintels as well. Which is a bloody big shame as we selected our meter box (and subsequently ALL "External Metal") to be Windspray, aka Apologetic Grey. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So - we are now in a situation where the lintels above our beautiful white windows will be painted in Apologetic Grey. Completely unacceptable to us so I've done a fair bit of swearing in the hours since that meeting. Our SS is going to tell the painter to hold off on painting the lintels for now and we need to find a colour that will match our windows. And of course, because it's a change it will most likely incur a variation fee. *insert more swearing here* The only good thing is that I'm SO glad I asked the question about the lintels because I'd be pretty upset if they were painted grey and looked hideous and there was not even the opportunity to change it. I was actually Mr W2T about it, what a pickle. Our lintels are all painted Paperbark, which is the same as our downpipes (except for the front ones painted to match the render), the rear garage roller and the meter box. So in our case, the lintels match the bricks and you don't really notice them. What colour are they doing your downpipes? I reckon you might be on to a winner going with a white to match the white lustre. What about a red? It's one of those things (like the ugly sewer anti smell pipes) I wish I knew about before building, never even noticed them on my last house! Here's the paperbark garage door, there is a lintel above it and downpipe. Our house will have the bathroom tiling finished today and we have been told PCI of 10th November. I have no idea what colour our lintels are being painted...I suppose I should find out. We hired Darbecca to do every stage inspection, and I strongly recommend them to anyone that asks me. They were amazing.
