Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 25, 2016 12:42 pm Hi, just joined after reading many interesting forums on here about first time builders. Decided to put a line out there to see if anyone might be purchasing land from the Throsby Views development in Moss Vale. Hubby and I have found a block there perfect for us and cant wait until it's registered and we can start our build. It all seems so far away (registration not looking at happening until early next year), but from reading some of the forums I've discovered the crutial need for patience when buying in a land subdivision and building! Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 2Apr 25, 2016 1:05 pm Hey Mossy! We are building in Mitta! Quite a few of us on here building in the highlands. I will subscribe to your thread to follow your journey...yes waiting for registration tests your patience! It's all worth it though. Have you chosen a builder? X Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 3Apr 25, 2016 5:39 pm It looks like a lovely subdivision. We are building in the highlands as well Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 6Apr 25, 2016 5:58 pm Building in exeter Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 8Apr 25, 2016 6:25 pm We sure do lol it's been a long process, lots of changes in plans along the way, but hopefully not long till we are in viewtopic.php?t=70404 Do you have a thread also? Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 11Apr 25, 2016 8:11 pm Hi Deejay and Bigblock, great to see there's a few locals on here! We haven't chosen a builder yet although we are really keen on a Barrington design but the idea of using a local small business builder really appeals to us, lots of time to work that out anyway! We are in love with the french provincial/hamptons/shaker look, already have so many ideas. Our subdivision has quite a lot of rules for example we can only plant certain trees, shrubs etc and the roof pitch has to be a minimum of 27.5 degrees, also only allowed a few different fence types. I found this strange but at the same time think it will help keep the value of the area high which helps build the equity of our homes. I will update this with plans once we know which builder we're using. Cant even post block pics as it is a construction site not accessible to public! Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 13Apr 25, 2016 9:12 pm It sounds great Mossy - I quite like strict rules on builds etc as I must say some peoples tastes seem particularly unsympathetic to the region, so reducing that impact will be great in the long run. I had a shaker style kitchen in our old place...so much character! I know Renwick has quite a few stipulations too as originally we were looking for a block in there. We stumbled upon ours after the last blocks in the last stage were sold in renwick...serendipity I guess! Now they are releasing more...boo! Little bummed but hey...we are literally around the corner and zero stipulations besides the councils ones which are pretty much anything goes. Can't wait for those block pics and plans when you get them! Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 17Oct 27, 2016 9:46 am Sorry Im not usually so tardy in replying! Yes Gummz Im still here but haven't been active for a long time. Building plans are at a standstill, our subdivision has been delayed - so far until March but from what I've heard from other subdivisions no doubt there will be more delays again. Apparently with all the bad weather over winter things have been going slow. How is everyone going with their builds? I really need to come on here more often to keep track, once we get closer to the building process I will be posting updates. We have now decided on which builder to use, we were keen on Barrington but have now decided to go with a private builder - a local Moss Vale guy - we've seen his work and love it - very much the style we want, he builds gorgeous weatherboards! We are currently getting plans made up with a local draftsman. Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 19Oct 27, 2016 12:11 pm He doesn't have a website but the company is called Top Line Constructions and if you're ever in the area check out his latest building work - the three houses on the corner of Church Road/Victor Crescent in Moss Vale. Re: First time build in Southern Highlands 20Oct 27, 2016 1:47 pm Love those 3 new houses Mossy - wondered who was building them Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk In Qld it is a requirement that a builder must have a cost breakdown, for building a home to the same specification, with the same inclusions and the same finish. So ask… 1 1768 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point.
