Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 20, 2014 1:18 pm Hi Everyone,
My partner and I have just put our deposit on our 653m2 block of land in Gillieston Heights. This will be our first home so we are very excited and nervous. We are both 22 and have saved hard to get a decent deposit together and decided building a home with the things we want was a better option for us - i doubt we would have the patience to renovate. Here is our block: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Registration is looking to be around November this year so we are eager to get things underway. There is approximately 600mm fall at the front of the block and the rest is rather flat so hoping for a very easy build. Fingers crossed. We spent weeks looking through display homes and floor plans from every possible builder but couldn't go past Sekisui's Clareville Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We were drawn to the simplicity of the design and absolutely loved the display home. Of course we have a few changes to make to the plan to better suit our lifestyle. The plans are currently being drawn up on the block and we'll post and update soon Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 2Jul 20, 2014 1:24 pm congrats on your first block of land house plans look great Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 3Jul 20, 2014 5:41 pm Congratulations on your purchase. Nice house plan, love the small store room accessible from the garage. Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 4Jul 22, 2014 9:54 am Congrats on the land purchase!! My partner and I have started the building process in stage 7 in Saddlers Ridge. The design looks nice. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and I will definitely be following your thread. Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 5Jul 26, 2014 10:35 pm Hi Kate, So glad you started a thread. And amazing work building at 22. Well done. This will certainly put you in good stead for your future. The other Clareville I saw is very close to your new block. If only I noted down the address. I'll see if I can figure it out for you. What changes are you making to the plan? Would love to know what they are. I can't remember which facade you said you're doing? The other Clareville I saw is a modified Bungalow - that is a very simple version of the bungalow. Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 6Aug 09, 2014 12:48 pm Thanks everyone! Cubshome - I hope your build goes very smoothly as well! I love your colour and tile selections. Cat_dunc - We saw a Clareville being built at the end of our street with the outdoor area moved to the back. Good to see one being built. The consultant at Chisholm mentioned thebuyer who had purchased the block two doors down from ours is also building with Sekisui and the house between us could also be a Sekisui design. We paid our $2000 deposit to Sekisui to get the ball rolling. We are going to go with the Clareville design but make a few modifications. Todd has been having a lot of fun playing around with AutoCAD creating the house plan with the modifications. I'm more interested in the colour selections! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It didn't seem like we had that many changes until i wrote this list out! - Extension to a third garage with rear roller door - We are going with the traditional facade but extending the porch and adding two brick pillars. Also changing the front room window to three separate windows. The traditional is plain so we just wanted to make it a little more interesting Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Adding a door and robe to the study to create the 4th bedroom - Adding small sink to W/C - Add a niche to both showers - Remove the store from the garage and extend the ensuite shower to double shower - Add cavity sliding doors to WIR and ensuite - Move the linen towards the rear of the house and make into a triple. This will make the WIR larger also - Skylight to the hallway. The hallway is long and it looks like it may not get as much light as we would like - Add a door to the hallway to separate the bedrooms from the living/dining - Add nice double external sliding doors to theatre room - Remove the wall between the dining/living areas - Swap the double sliding door and single sliding doors to outside. We plan to build a larger outdoor area to the rear of the house at a later date and this will be used more often than the side outdoor area. - Ceaserstone bench tops with waterfall edges - Minor changes to the cabinetry in the kitchen Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Bulkhead over overhead cupboards - Extend the laundry by approx. 1240mm to the to allow for space for cabinets and broom cupboard - Add a 3rd toilet to the laundry - Again planning ahead for when the larger outdoor area is completed so guests don't have to walk through the whole house to get to a toilet Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Colourbond roof Through the current promotion Sekisui are running we will take the kitchen upgrade package and the green upgrade package: The Kitchen Package Upgrade (option 1) includes: • 20mm Caesarstone benchtops (Standard Range) • Soft close doors • Undermount sink • Glass splashback (Starfire Glass) • Caroma Saracom Mixer Tapware • Blanco 900mm cooktop, oven and rangehood • Blanco Dishwasher • Blanco Microwave Green Package Upgrade (Option 4) includes: • Total 3 x Ceiling Sweep fans, installed to Living Area/s • PV Solar Panel System • HPM Energy Monitor • Viridian Smart Glass (SP10) We think we can survive without ducted air con. Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 8Aug 09, 2014 3:40 pm You posted your changes - yay! I love them! I may just need to steal the laundry idea. Have they given you a price for the 1.2m laundry extension and are you getting laundry cabinetry through them? If so how much are they charging for that too please? Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 9Aug 09, 2014 11:18 pm Katetodd - I'm following your build too! We have just paid our deposit to build the Regent with Sekisui. Akula - our estimate has 9sqm of extra garage space for $3,600 so around $400 per sqm. Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 10Aug 09, 2014 11:30 pm Wow! Looks good. And really like the changes you are making. The door in the hall is brilliant! So good for future heating / cooling needs as well as noise isolation. Jealous of the green package options you are getting. Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 11Aug 10, 2014 11:27 am Currently we don't know the price of individual items but as soon as i know I'll let you know. It's starting to feel very real now Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 12Aug 17, 2014 11:53 am So we had our 40 minute pre-colour appointment yesterday... I came out of it a little disappointed. It felt like the colour consultant had no idea what we had planned to do with the house. Luckily Todd took all his designs with us so we could show her what we were talking about! Basically she just said this is what comes standard with the house. I thought maybe they would show some options we could upgrade to if we weren't happy with the standard. Anyway we've started going through the books and brochures. We sort of know the colours we want for the exterior and we will be going very neutral for the interior. Just need to make sure the bathrooms and laundry flow with the rest of the house! Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 13Aug 17, 2014 1:50 pm Our biggest decision will be flooring. We are leaning towards tiles but i don't know what the best option will be for us. I like the look of tiles and timber look flooring. I worry that tiles will be too cold or hard to keep clean Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 14Aug 17, 2014 4:22 pm Welcome to H1 KateTodd! Congrats on your block purchase, and your plan looks great. I love how 3 rooms have an outlook to your alfresco area. And your WIP is to die for! So sorry to hear you were disappointed with your pre colour appt. Its awful when you are so full of excitement and you are faced with disinterested and unhelpful people. Just remember you are paying for it and you can have what you want! If I am feeling down I just get my H1 fix! We are having wood look tiles coz are on a property and wanted to be practical. Can't have kids and lambs running around on wood floors without damage!! Trend Ceramics in Osbourne Park stock a range called the Etic collection - they are gorgeous. Minimal grout, porcelain so they won't chip white as are the same colour right through, and low maintenance. Sound like a salesperson don't I!!! I have a sample of the Etic Rovere and call it 'my precious'!! Now sounding nutty so will leave it at that! Good luck with your build! Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 15Aug 17, 2014 6:26 pm KateTodd Our biggest decision will be flooring. We are leaning towards tiles but i don't know what the best option will be for us. I like the look of tiles and timber look flooring. I worry that tiles will be too cold or hard to keep clean are you going to get Sekisui to do the floors or after handover? We're doing ours after handover and agree that the floors was the biggest decision for us and that we used our floors to decide on the rest of the colours! (But if you are going neutral it won't be a problem anyway). I am anti tiles as they do get cold in winter although they are very hardy! (Other people I know love them and don't notice them being cold so to each their own). And I know what you mean about the colours appointment. It's not as good as what the others who are building with the more established builders experience but I suspect overtime they will improve their upselling and provide more options. Good luck with all the decision making. Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 16Aug 20, 2014 8:58 pm We're slowly making decisions on colours Here's what we're thinking for the exterior: The closest exterior to our design i could find to give us an indication of colours. We haven't had a chance to look at the Austral brick range in person as yet but from the brochure the brick will most likely be 'Engage" or "Leisure" from the Everyday Life range. We would probably then go a light coloured front door as well. If anyone has any suggestions on the exterior colour choice please let me know Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 17Aug 20, 2014 11:52 pm Hey KateTodd, you have made our choice a bit easier, your exteriors look very good to me. 23/06/2014 - Paid deposit 21/07/2014 - ordered the survey and tender 13/08/2014 - soils test sample taken 14/08/2014 - survey done today 30/08/2014 - Pre-color consultant aptmnt Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 18Sep 01, 2014 8:30 pm Thanks Vivmak! Unfortunately these are the only colours we've been able to decide on! Having trouble picturing the whole house and the flow of colours. especially from the tiny samples. Looking everywhere for inspiration though so hopefully i'll wake up one day and know exactly what i want Re: Our first home - Sekisui Clareville - Saddlers Ridge 20Sep 01, 2014 9:27 pm The land contracts were exchanged last week Still waiting on the proposal but the consultant forwarded our plans to us to review while we wait. Certainly taking its time. Bit nervous on what price might come back! The plans look fairly good though. They've taken almost everything we asked for into consideration just a few minor changes that haven't made it to the plans. Other than that we've just been looking at colours and styles A quick update, we didn't have site start before Easter.
