Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 12, 2016 7:24 pm Finally getting around to starting a thread for our build. We are building at Chisholm with Coral Homes. We chose the Daydream 30 and made a few changes. Had similar frustrations to many others during the admin stage, but our SS is great and things are moving along nicely. Will try to post the plans soon, but here's a pic of where the house is at now. Will post some from the start later. Yeah there's a bit more done since that photo as well. Gyprock is due to start on Thursday. We're just really slack getting started on here! Best of luck for the rest of your build Wasn't convinced about the windows until the bricks went on, actually. Those bricks are just generic ones. The front of the house is to be rendered. The rest of the bricks are Eclipse (kinda blackish). Can't remember if they were from pgh or austral. Soooo long ago haha. Main changes are Grand Cooloola Portico, 0.5m added to length of house. Length used to extend study, media, and family room. Also moved family room 0.5m into alfresco. Changed ensuite layout and few other minor changes here and there. Will try to be more diligent with progress shots from here on in. I'll post the tiles etc when I can find those pics! Our thread: viewtopic.php?t=82814 Re: Coral Homes Daydream 30ish 11Apr 19, 2016 8:47 am Hi Michaelandkaty, How exiting for you. We too are about to be building a Daydream (32) in Chisholm too. We are in council at the moment and hoping to be out soon. I have actually seen your house as i have been driving to my block and was pretty sure it was a daydream. We too are having the Eclipse bricks, (only just though as they have now been discontinued, which we found out at our colour consult, but PGH were able to put some aside for us). I am so glad that you have found your SS good as i assume that is who we will be having too. What facade did you go with. We have the Elliot Portico. Rebecca Re: Coral Homes Daydream 30ish 13Apr 19, 2016 9:01 pm Becs Coral Woops. I just saw your facade. Hi Rebecca. We originally intended to build the 32, but didn't think we'd use the games room. Ended up adding a little bit of space to the 30 and keeping that layout (mostly). We chose the Eclipse bricks because they were the only ones from the standard range we liked and we'd spent too much on other stuff to justify upgrading the bricks. Now that they're on we really like them. Bonus! What stage is your build at? Has your land registered? Re: Coral Homes Daydream 30ish 14Apr 19, 2016 9:02 pm Just reread your post. You're in council. Hope it moves quickly for you. Re: Coral Homes Daydream 30ish 15Apr 20, 2016 8:32 am The brick is looking great. We originally were upgrading to the Australian Blackstone brick and when the price doubled from quote to tender we went looking again and were chuffed to have found the Eclipse as we really wanted a black brick. So we're were so grateful that the lady at PGH could save some for us. We are having white windows and roof etc with ours. We are in Pinchtail. How long did yours take in council and how long after that was your start date? We deposited on our land last Feb so probably like you, has been such a long process and so keen for it to happen as quickly as possible. I like what you did to your pantry. I was tossing up doing something similar bit wasn't sure if I would lose space but seeing as how it it so big anyway it will probably be plenty anyway. Have you got an estimate on your build time? Yeah we're actually pretty happy with the bricks, especially given that, like you, we weren't willing to pay double for the upgrades and there were not many options outside of reds and browns if you want to have dark bricks. Reds and browns didn't suit the rest of the feel of the house, so black it was. As for council, ours took the full 8 weeks due to lots of applications and a few errors on the certifier part. It got pretty annoying by the end because we felt most of the mistakes should have been picked up before submission. There were a lot of errors during the selection/estimation/admin stage that blew the time out as well. We actually investigated breaking the contract, but it was too late. Kind of glad now, because the site supervisor has been really good and things are moving along ok now. I imagine you'll get the same guy, so that'll be good. We have a couple of friends building in your stage, so I can vouch for at least some of your neighbours! Re: Coral Homes Daydream 30ish 17Apr 21, 2016 3:05 pm Oh gee. I hope that we don't have to wait that long. I had in my head a month and Hopi g that as we didn't make too many structural changes then it won't be too complicated, but who knows. Good to know we will have some good neighbours. Re: Coral Homes Daydream 30ish 18Apr 21, 2016 4:23 pm Becs Coral Oh gee. I hope that we don't have to wait that long. The whole process getting to site is a lengthy and painful one. We were approved in council in dec last year and we only just had our slab poured last week Re: Coral Homes Daydream 30ish 19Apr 21, 2016 6:52 pm Becs Coral Oh gee. Good to know we will have some good neighbours. I think it depends on how many applications council has to deal with. Our friends had their application in and out in a month. Hopefully yours is that quick. Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13775 In Qld it is a requirement that a builder must have a cost breakdown, for building a home to the same specification, with the same inclusions and the same finish. So ask… 1 4352 Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74715 |
