Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 10, 2016 7:07 pm Hi there We are building a double story very soon and they are allowing us to have alarm installed ourselves during the build. Can anyone recommend what we should be looking for? We are thinking something with additional keypad upstairs and maybe around 4+ sensors? Re: Alarm recommendation 2Apr 11, 2016 9:54 pm Look for the likely entry points (doors, windows) and cover them. Don't waste money on reed switches on windows, instead use one or two on your actual entry doors to start the entry delay timer, this lets the installer program the PIR sensors to go into alarm instantly (or get set as a entry handover so if a delay zone is activated first, the PIR doesn't go into alarm instantly if you are walking across its path to get to the keypad). 2 storey homes benefit from using 2 keypads so you can activate the system at night if you don't have anyone downstairs. If you choose a system with a wireless remote, consider getting a remote that has extra outputs and running a wire from the wireless receiver to the garage door motor (if the motor allows for an external switch input) so the alarm remote can also open the garage door. Depending on your state of residence, licensing requirements differ for people who install and/or advise on options. Refer to your local police licensing division to find out info. I know that here in Victoria all people employed in the security alarm sales and installation industry need to be registered as either or both an adviser or installer. http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.as ... t_ID=37732 Re: Alarm recommendation 3Apr 11, 2016 10:01 pm I'll be putting in a Bosch 6000 system with the GSM module so I can check on it and arm/disarm from the phone. http://www.cheapalarmparts.com.au/produ ... of%29.html Ellison by Ausbuild - Brisbane viewtopic.php?t=81468 If you need to pay for a project manager you would be well advised to just engage a builder who would take full responsibility for the build.
