Browse Forums Building A New House Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 43Apr 26, 2016 11:08 am Yes - excavation is done and slab pour is supposed to happen today or tomorrow. I have kept our SS in the loop. He has just emailed me explaining that the bench length is different because of the changes to the pantry in the display (thought part of his explanation doesn't match some of the measurements we took). I have emailed him back saying that I am not looking to understand WHY it's different, I am looking for the issue to be rectified because if we'd known, we would have changed the plans at the start. I've also had very careful emails from the colours people saying they're always happy to assist if I have questions or 'don't understand' something. My sense is that after a lot of scrambling this morning they want us to agree this was our mistake and proceed as per the plan, but that is not an outcome I can live with. Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 45Apr 26, 2016 11:29 am I know there will be. Just had a good chat with our SS and I am feeling more confident we'll get an outcome I am happy with. Stay tuned! KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 46Apr 26, 2016 11:32 am red15 Question for those of you who have run into issues - what have you found is the best path to resolution? I would prefer not to be a thorn in anyone's side so I am trying to be friendly and understanding but I wonder if I should be more demanding from step one (I also have this underlying fear that if we're difficult they'll ditch us - is that just paranoia?). Hi Red, We had exactly the same experience, we chose the Balmoral because of the kitchen. I said the same thing, I want all the kitchen upgrades in the display home and then modified them. This was the main reason for our pain with drafting, our plans had to be redrawn more than 15x, significanty took too long to get to the stage of accepting the plans and paying 10k. We work with numbers and for the life of me, we dont get why drafting cant follow the measurements we asked for when we drew them in autoCAD over their plans. We thought our attention to detail would help, it made little difference on how they approach the job. That alerted us to measure every step of the way, and remind SS stuff. Even with our method, we still missed a couple. We signed the plan, and the plan is what they go by. But we also found that they dont follow the details on the plan when convenient for them. And where they did not follow them, I made sure I gave them a lecture (as polite as I can) in email. Our build didnt take more than 12 months just because. I had to fight them right from drafting stage till handover - a very stressfull chapter of our life. We did 3 attempts of hand over because a lot of things were poorly done or have been damaged by tradies and i refused to accept them. It's our dream home and we've invested blood, sweat and tears (a lot from me). Try to be polite whenever you can and if you think you are right, then fight for it. But realise you cant win every battle, So choose your battles. Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 48Apr 26, 2016 6:05 pm I agree with Calvin. Really really good advice. It seems Coral Homes aren't the only company with frustrating draftsman! It's also true that you should pick your battles, and like you I've been conscious throughout he whole process that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so I have restrained myself many times from being aggressive or even assertive... But then you may get to build stage like me and have issues with everything... Like everything... And wonder 'what if I didn't just raise these concerns 4 months ago but what if I applied a bit more pressure and was a little more demanding' C U S T O M. C O R A L. We'll be out of pocket a bit but not too much and I am happy with the resolution. Credit to our SS - he got onto it quick smart and offered a couple of options for us to consider. I'm hoping that we can move on now and that something will actually *happen* on site soon! Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 50May 01, 2016 5:54 pm We've got piers! And form work! We won't be ready for slab pour on Monday but it looks like it will happen next week. I think the formork/waffle crew heads over to me on Monday. Did they reach your place on Monday, Joamoa? Our slab was poured yesterday, which was a bit of a surprise actually because usually things only seem to happen late in the week. Hopefully that means frames might go up next week. I am totally excited for that stage because it will start to look like a house! (That's our slab in the pics above in case anyone was wondering!) Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 57May 13, 2016 3:12 pm A big couple of weeks coming up for us - SS says external drainage Monday, power pole and undergrounds early next week, frames and some structural steel delivered Wednesday and then carpenter should be starting to erect frames next Friday or the following Monday! I know these times will probably stretch out but I think we might have something house-shaped on our block soon! I can't wait to see it go 3D! Here are a couple more slab pour pics in the meantime Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=82770&p=1531839#p1531839 Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 59May 16, 2016 6:05 pm Some more action today Plumbers working on the external drainage Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Some stuff has been delivered but I don't know what it is! We snuck in today for a look around and it felt great to check out some of our 'rooms'.
