Browse Forums Building A New House Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 81Jul 02, 2016 5:21 pm I'm a bit behind on updates. Week before last the brickies finished most of the bottom level. This week they went off to another job but they'll apparently be back early next week (which we all know could just as well mean Friday). SS reckons 10-12 days to finish bricks. Unfortunately a bit of a problem cropped up this week - our plans include a wokshop space at the back of the garage but somehow no one noticed that the change in design meant there was a section of upstairs brick with nothing to support it underneath. If it had been picked up earlier it would have been an easy invisible fix but at this point it requires an extra steel beam in the roof space (which we won't see) and two steel poles in the storeroom that will need to be boxed in, so each will jut into the space about 15cm. Not the end of the world but pretty annoying. Anyway, a few pics. Hope the 'fix' on the steel beams isn't too annoying...better than the alternative though! We met up with our SS to get access so we could measure up some furniture options and see how they'll fit, and while we were there we discovered the kitchen changes that were such a drama pre-slab have not been implemented. That means a window is in the wrong spot and brickwork is already started. On the plus side, SS immediately said he'd get it fixed - we were worried he'd say it was too late. Still, really disappointing after having been through all this drama once already. In other news, our SS said he's leaving and will finish up end of next week so I guess we're joining everyone else on the SS merry go round. Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 85Jul 06, 2016 2:39 pm Hi red15. Looks like your Benham is taking shape nicely. I know what you mean about the SS merry go round. I'm up to SS number 5!!! There is so much rework happening at my place because of the previous site supervisor, it's not funny! They've exceeded the 43 week contract period without a completion date in sight. I hope your Benham turns out better than mine. Mine is an absolute abortion! I'm considering selling when I've finished. No, I'm not a drama queen. Ask me what I've been through and you'll be shocked! Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 86Jul 06, 2016 2:51 pm Jimbo05 Hi red15. Looks like your Benham is taking shape nicely. I know you've had nothing but grief. Hope they can get it together to deliver you a final product you're happy with. We've had a few glitches but overall still really excited and looking forward to moving in, but you've had way more setbacks than us. Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 87Jul 30, 2016 4:10 pm Our new SS is on board now and so far seems to be doing a good job. Brickwork is now finished and the top level is due for cleaning next week. Roof should start going on the week after and then the scaff will come down. This pic was taken today from our street corner. They're Boral Blackheath. Love them! What did you choose? Re: KDR Rawson Benham in Sydney 92Aug 07, 2016 5:12 pm Well, after a very rainy week I was expecting no progress but we got a rather pleasant surprise when we found that everything that had been scheduled actually got done! So, we have fascia and guttering and the top level of bricks is cleaned. We were worried about the bricks when we went over because the mortar was very cracked and gappy but the SS assured us that's usual after cleaning and re-pointing has already been scheduled. He replied to my email within half a hour even though it was Saturday. Very happy with him so far. Tomorrow roof tiling is set to start and SS reckons it will be done by Thursday. Here's a pic with the guttering up (not that you can really see it!). The fascia is surfmist and the guttering is ironstone. Of course, I have no first-hand knowledge of this...(where's the whistling emoji when you need one?) Looking fantastic. It's awesome to see it coming together. We actually have a gate in the back fence that is accessible from the reserve behind... We try not to use it because the fence is in a pretty precarious state (demolition took out some of the support and then crazy rain made things worse) but we can if we need to. Today I arranged for an independent pre-lining inspection. Hopefully our SS will not be too put out.
