Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 27, 2008 4:30 pm Hello everyone,
Well it has been a busy time in the past few months, but we recently attended our PCI, which was surpising given that the house was quite simply not ready but we none the less did our thing. Following that we reinspected things that supposedly had been repaired but was not done well at all. The general response we are starting to get is that "i dont think we will be able to do it better" and this for things that are no way within the building standards and tolerances. We are meeting again in the next few days and i suspect that there will be some senior construction types there to play the muscle (i.e intimidate and bully) I was just seeking some advice as to how best to stand my ground regarding the quality of the work we expect, we have had Kevin do his thing also but we have not yet got his report. If they get hostile what can i do? should i make a premptive strike by placing my expectations in writing? Thanks for your help. Regards, Ratter Re: Standing ground 2Jul 27, 2008 6:42 pm I'm sorry I don't have any advice as I've not reached that stage yet myself...
I hope the report that Kevin gives you has some answers to you doubts. If there are any major issues, of course you should stand your ground. Re: Standing ground 3Jul 27, 2008 10:12 pm Sorry to hear that you're having issues with the quality of your builder's work.
It also happened to us. What we did was to email our CSR informing her about our independent inspection and report would be coming soon. When we weren't happy with some of the responses of our SS (e.g. saying that the issues were within tolerance, blah, blah), we emailed our CSR again, copy furnished the site manager. What happened was the SM pulled out our SS from a meeting and instructed him to communicate with us. All I can say is that, looks like informing higher authorities really work well. We may not agree on all issues that we raise, but at least majority would be fixed as a result of elevating to higher management. Hope they fix the issues to your satisfaction. Keep us posted. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Regards, Ratter I would ensure you have Kevin onsite with you and yes by all means pre-empt them. If you can not get Kevin then postpone the meeting till you can get him onsite as he can argue with them and quote build regs at them etc etc whereby you can not. If they are not meeting basic building codes then they do not have a lot on their side except for bully boy tactics but just stand your ground and tell them "no not good enough" If you feel they are going to "bully" you then do not attend the meeting with out your own "muscle, i.e Kev. Bottom line is they can only bully if you let them. Stand firm and tell em to get stufed!! Hi everyone, Looking for some advise. We are about to build an above ground pool in our backyard.
