Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 26, 2016 8:51 pm Hi all. We're building a waldorf 44 and wanted to know what others have chosen in terms of ducted air con? PD doesn't allow our own installers on site during the build so we will have to do with their preferred installer. We have been quoted 27k installed for 23kw Actron ESP +, this seems very excessive to us and we were expecting somewhere around 20k. Has anyone had experiences dealing with their installer? We're particular keen to hear what you chosen and paid. PM me if you'd like to keep it off the public post. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Re: Advice on ducted aircon 2Mar 26, 2016 9:56 pm There is a Heating, Cooling and Insulation sub forum and there is also a thread in this sub forum for Waldorf 44 buyers that you should join in on if you want answers. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Advice on ducted aircon 4Mar 27, 2016 11:37 am coquinone - We are building a 2 story 37sq house. We are installing an Actron Air ESP+ 20KW with 6 zones and the app (which alone was around $900 from memory) and we are pay $16,000. It came standard with 4 zones and we added another 2 zones at $440/zone. My house is around 27 squares of internal living and 37 overall and the builder is including a Daikin 20kW system, so you may well need a 23kW all up. I know Actron is expensive, but 27K is crazy, builders markup will be at lead 30%. I would possibly contact the building board in your state and fair trading to see whether they can legitimately not allow anyone on site. To back yourself up, I would get multiple quotes on the same system and then take them back to the builder and ask WTF? Then if they don't come to the party on price, insist that you want you contractors to do it. If they say no, inform yourself on your rights. Builders tell you many things that just are not true to make it easier or make more money for themselves. You should not be obligated to do anything through the builder that is not mandatory before the home is considered habitable. Re: Advice on ducted aircon 7Mar 28, 2016 7:17 pm Thanks for your advice E563, We're looking into the possibility of just get their installers to do the duct work and doing the install post handover. You're right in terms of getting multiple quotes. I have sent a few quote request to a few installers and I'm very keen to see what they come back with. We I spoke to the builder in regards to getting our own contractors in, they have said they don't allow this due to insurance reasons. I didn't ask exactly what was the reason, does this sounds right? Re: Advice on ducted aircon 8Mar 30, 2016 9:37 am Builders do have different rules, but as long as your tradespeople have the required insurances, public liability etc, there should be no reason that they can't be covered by their own insurances. They might need to prove they have their own insurance, but any reputable installer would. Always challenge a builder. I can't stress that enough. Remember, they are working for you.
