Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 23, 2016 11:43 pm Hi guys, After some advice, much appreciated in advance. Looking to build a 2 storey and am thinking to do lightings after HO to save money. Is it as simple as working out a lighting plan with the builder and ask them to install a standard light bulb only, and then to get an electrician after HO to install all downlights/pendant light? Or are there more I need to look out for? Would two storey make it a bit more difficult (eg, installing pendant light where stairs are...etc)? Thanks Re: Lightings after HO 2Mar 24, 2016 1:00 am Hi Volmix, Thought I may be able to help in this dept due to be an Electrician myself. I would advise to plan your lighting location's, especially for the downstairs areas. There is generally very little ceiling space and in some cases no ceiling space downstairs due to 2nd Floor Concrete Slab. I would get the cheapest fitting possible but in a very close location to the where you want your future fitting to be. You would definantly get away with doing anything on the 2nd storey as any Electrician can wire up those area's with ease. On a note for your lighting layout, you may be able to sort this out through a builder. Or you could possible pay your Electrician a little cash and he may be able to get your plans sorted with the best locations for downlights etc with the help of his contacts within the industry. Hopefully I could be of some help. Best of luck. Re: Lightings after HO 3Mar 24, 2016 5:35 pm Oh darn. Oh well our roof isn't too bad. We were also wondering the same thing Re: Lightings after HO 4Mar 24, 2016 5:56 pm Thanks boma91, so really, I just have to plan ahead on where I want my lights to be (ie, downlights / pendant lights) and the builder can do all the wiring and install the standard/cheap light. After HO, I will just get a electrician to swap and install all the lights for me? Is this correct? Thanks Re: Lightings after HO 5Mar 25, 2016 3:29 pm Correct, The better planning done during the building stage's, the cheaper the Electrician will complete the work. It will always be cheaper to to swap over fittings as it is much quicker. Just as a reference, I would expect an Electrician to charge around $50-$60 an hour (Cash) to complete works after H/O. So the better planning would result in less of their time. Hope this helps. Yes, I have. But, I haven't paid yet. They know they did not do proper jobs and I sent the email re: final payment, I cannot pay. They said, we will do 2nd PCI. Since… 2 5460 We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 36896 The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5118 |
