Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 23, 2016 1:11 pm Hi all Hope this works! March 2015 after looking everywhere for a house to buy we (hubby and our 3 boys 4,2,1) decided that if we wanted our dream home big enough for us we would have to build it our selves. Then started the search for land! Eventually we settled with murwillumbah NSW and brought a 661m2 block off the plans expecting registration in June 2015. While we were waiting (not so patiently) for registration we decided to build with coral homes and fell in love with the marcoola 30. We tweeked the plans and signed all the tenders and had the wait for registration! After 9 long months we finally got the call we had been waiting for, apparently someone in our area lost it at the council and our land was to be registered in the January 2016. Since then everything has go so quick! Contracts signed on the 2nd of March and we had our tiles and colours done last week (will post photos). We are now waiting on the private certifier to tick us off and electrical next week and then we will hopefully get a start date soon Building our first home marcoola 30 Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 3Mar 23, 2016 1:27 pm Some of our colour choices..... Yeah it's vinyl planks for our flooring, think the colour was blackbutt or something like that. Yeah we looked at so many designs and builders and it was the only one that ticked all the boxes! Building our first home marcoola 30 viewtopic.php?t=82565 Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 7Mar 23, 2016 8:40 pm Great choices, we are planning on using planks too in a similar colour and are keen on urban for our kitchen. I've seen a few small urban samples and some look a bit browny/grey, did you find this or does it looks grey? Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 8Mar 23, 2016 9:11 pm Hi BTTTB, That's a nice block you have got yourself! Are you from the area? Mur'bah is beautiful! Always views of Mt Warning in the background! We are located in Lismore and have recently bought a block at Naughtons Gap (Bently). We chose to build with GJ Grafton. The Marcoola is a lovely design and would have built it if we didn't go with GJ. Those feature tiles are gorgeous! Might put them in my stash of things I like for my apt when it comes time to do that. Looking forward to following your build! Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 9Mar 23, 2016 9:18 pm I think there is a bit of warmth to it but minimal.... I couldn't really tell but the colours lady mentioned it will go well with our feature tiles and floors because it does the picture of the sample is the same one with the floor, it's ****** across the white tile. I think I remember reading in the description of it on the website it mentions having brown in it. But yeah I love it where are you guys building??? Hi Charlibear, Yes home is Kingscliff but the prices here are $200-300k more for something we would have to renovate so started looking around.... Growing up murbah was always given a bad name but then going back I just fell in love with it! Best of both worlds Lismore is a beautiful area as well I have a few friends from that area! We also looked at gj's Coolum design but didn't have the best experience with the tweed guys so we went with coral in the end. I fell in love with the feature as soon as I saw it! And it fit perfectly with what we wanted if you have a link to your build would love to follow!! Building our first home marcoola 30 viewtopic.php?t=82565 Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 12Mar 23, 2016 9:37 pm Kingscliff is an incredible place!!! Salt is to die for, but the prices there, not so much haha. We are building the Coolum 277 with a few modifications. We looked at Coral in Ballina but were told that they would not alter any plans to what we want until we pay a deposit and sign a contract, they also didn't listen to anything we said, where as GJ in Grafton have gone above and beyond to accommodate and we haven't paid a single cent or signed anything... We weren't looking to buy land until the end of this year but our dream block in our dream location came up for ridiculously cheap so we bought. We are hopefully looking to build around October so I will start a thread closer to building. Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 13Mar 23, 2016 9:48 pm Yeah I would love to buy in kingy! Maybe one day So funny you say that the gj's at tweed were so bad with changes we wanted and coral the opposite! But I must say I've been to the coral in Ballina to see the marcoola display and they never seem impressed to see me or have even asked if I needed assistance etc Where as pete at Pottsville is so lovely! So defiantly depends on where you go! We loved the Coolum design as well! Good luck with all the plans!!! We are still waiting for our land to register which will hopefully be in July this year. We are building in tweed heads south with coral and have chosen the noosa 28. We are living in Brisbane and looking forward to bringing up our family close to the water. We love Kingscliff but its so expensive it was out of our budget. How are you experiences with coral so far BTTB. We went to visit the Pottsville display home last week and feel in love with it. We are thinking of copying most of the colours inside lol. The staff were so welcoming so different to the Brisbane offices. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to following your journey.. Exciting times Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 16Mar 23, 2016 10:35 pm Thanks guys how exciting mj where in tweed is the land you are buying?? You won't regret the move I have lived in Kingscliff since I was a kid and left to go to uni have lived in many places now but knew I always wanted to come back here to settle. Coral have been great so far! Pete at Pottsville couldn't be nicer! Will do anything to help you out and has made this whole process a lot easier for us especially being our first build! I think our sc is a little new to the job and has been learning along with us but she is lovely as well and has been very helpful. The only issues we had were with registration which was a joke really! Hopefully you guys don't have the same issues although like I said apparently turning up at the council office and going off your head does the trick! Got to thank that lady when I find out who it is Building our first home marcoola 30 viewtopic.php?t=82565 Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 17Mar 24, 2016 5:09 pm We've been pretty slack and haven't been to any display homes but my husband and I have such different schedules that it's almost impossible to get a day off together to go look. We are going to Grafton on Tuesday to finalise plans and fix the contract so at least we will get to see the display home in Grafton lol Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 18Mar 24, 2016 7:12 pm BTTTB I think there is a bit of warmth to it but minimal.... Building our first home marcoola 30 viewtopic.php?t=82565 Yes it goes well with all your selections. All very similar to what we have planned. We are going to be building 30 mins south of Coffs Harbour. In the early stages as we are waiting for our land to register. Re: Building our family home coral marcoola 30 19Mar 27, 2016 11:19 am Hi BTTB, sorry late reply Easter weekend has been busy! Hope everyone is having a good holiday! Yes I've have hard that the tweed council can be extremely slow. So good to hear that things are moving now!! Very exciting! We are building at Fraser cove off Fraser drive. We have a 525sq m block and brought it off the plan. It's was a bit scary but we thought it's now or never lol! So now that your land is registered will it take long for coral to get the ball rolling? ? So now that your land is registered will it take long for coral to get the ball rolling? We also looked at building there!! But I didn't want to wait that long for registration but ended up having to wait anyway it has taken no time at all, we were ready to go and when we got the word it was registered we ordered our contract which took a few weeks but it's all gone very quick since.... It's a bit hard sometimes as my hubby is FIFO so if he's not home it holds things up but that's about it. Although the Metricon houses in our estate have started already so I get a little jealous! But they had house and land and I'm not sure but the houses may have already been council approved so skipped what we are doing now? We are just waiting for the plumbing and driveway stuff to come back from council and electrical Wednesday we should be ready to go!! Bring on a start date! Happy Easter everyone!!! In Qld it is a requirement that a builder must have a cost breakdown, for building a home to the same specification, with the same inclusions and the same finish.
