Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 22, 2016 12:45 pm Hi All, Is there a reference list of what needs to be considered when building a media room? E.g: running speaker wires, HDMI cables, making provision for projector mount, provision for screen.... I am trying to future proof the room as much as possible. It will be 5.1 setup. I would like to make provision for ATMOS speaker setup and a motorised projector screen which I am planning to buy in the future... Any general advice will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your input Cheers, Re: Media/Theatre room 2Mar 22, 2016 1:45 pm Have you had a good read of some of the threads in the Home Theatre & Automation dept ? viewforum.php?f=34 Lots of info there. Stewie Re: Media/Theatre room 3Mar 23, 2016 8:30 am Reg, I am going through this at the moment.. and even as good as i have planned i know i will miss things. So the simplest thing is run a HEAP of string line everywhere then when it comes to it you can just pull cables through.. I too am pre planning for atmos and projector. I have bought the HDMI cable for the projector and will run it in the wall and leave in in the ceiling loose. Re: Media/Theatre room 4Mar 23, 2016 9:24 am Dont go with a motorized screen. Over time it will have waves in it. Was going to do the same thing till I spoke with some people in the business. Can make a real nice fixed screen with some blockout material. Just recently made an outside screen for my alfresco and it works a treat. Re: Media/Theatre room 5Mar 23, 2016 9:52 am Yeah drop down screens are just a gimmick, as stated above a fixed screen with blockout curtains that pull back will be cheaper and much classier. If you want it as sound proofed as possible then the motorised screen will just allow sound to escape through its cavity. Thank you Aussie and J. fixed screen with blockout curtains - Is this something like we have in Cinemas? Re: Media/Theatre room 9Mar 29, 2016 12:38 pm jhiace Reg, Exactly like the cinemas, get a curved screen and you're even closer! Thank you! Will that impact the placement of front speakers? Re: Media/Theatre room 11Mar 29, 2016 1:03 pm jhiace Not really.. if doing floor speakers they should be out off the wall at least 600mm anyway (check dolby guides for exact) Thank you. Re: Media/Theatre room 12Mar 29, 2016 1:04 pm Another question I have is...What colour do you suggest for floor (carpet), wall and ceiling for the media room to enhance the viewing experience. Cheers, Re: Media/Theatre room 13Mar 29, 2016 5:25 pm We used Dulux Tea House on our walls, cornice and ceiling. It's a mid to darkish grey colour. Our carpet is a similar colour. Don't use gloss paints or have any other shiny surfaces as it will reflect/bounce the light from the screen.
