Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 21, 2016 2:50 pm Hi everyone! I just wanted to find out if anyone here has built with G. J. Gardner? In particular in Mildura? I'm looking at building their Springbrook plan (with a couple of minor alterations). Any advice on things to change on this plan? Thanks! Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 3Mar 22, 2016 9:47 am We are building with gjs in the shoalhaven. We have modified the bridge water design and have loved every minute so far. That's a great design for living areas. My only comment would be it looks as though there's no eaves which makes the house really hot and if it rains, there's no protection. The house we just sold didn't have eaves and I found out just how impractical it is. Other than that I would do something with the rumpus. My concern would be how it is situated on the block with regards to the alfresco and not having sunlight which can make a design with a lot of walls feel smaller than it is. - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 4Mar 22, 2016 11:26 am Hi Nel, We building with GJ in Grafton We have modified the Coolum 277 design. GJ have accommodated every change so far there customer has been amazing! Kym makes a very good point about the eaves, I think eaves are a very functional part of the design. Another idea would be turning the entrance to the alfresco into corner stacking doors with the dining, will make the space look much bigger as it is open. Re: Build with G. J. I didn't even think about the eaves! Thanks. I've always lived in older houses which always have eaves. We were looking at extending the outdoor area anyway out to a pool area so the Rumpus shouldn't really be in the way of that. Thanks so much for your feedback! Re: Build with G. J. Hi Charli, I'm glad to hear they are good in relation to changing the plans. There are a few little changes I want to make to the plan! I didn't even think about the eaves so I will add it to my list of things to talk to them about. I like the idea of stacker doors. I wonder how much that will add to the space Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 7Mar 22, 2016 5:48 pm Changed quite a few things with my plan, completely moved the front to another side of the house, they did it and never um or ahed. I did approach another builder for comparison quote but would not listen to anything I wanted and gave me a plan the complete opposite of what I wanted, GJ have amazing customer service and accomodate to your needs Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 10Apr 14, 2016 9:12 pm I'm still trying to get the plans 100% perfect! I've changed a few things around, just not quite happy with the kitchen bench so trying to work out how to change it... I'll upload photos shortly... Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 12Apr 14, 2016 9:28 pm Why aren't you happy with the kitchen bench? I think you have a lovely floor plan! Big spacious home it will be Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 13Apr 14, 2016 9:31 pm The bench isn't deep enough to be able to put stools under it so I'm just trying to work out how to make it deeper. Also just need to make the ensuite a little bigger so I can put a door across the toilet too. Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 14Apr 14, 2016 10:10 pm Personally I would forget about the butlers pantry and turn that into a storeroom or workshop for garage and put the kitchen in the area opposite (I assume dining area), there is a lot of area there and will give you a much larger kitchen. I'd love to see your custom build? Re: Build with G. J. Gardner 20Apr 15, 2016 8:19 pm Thanks, I have posted some photos here viewtopic.php?f=31&t=82748&view=unread#unread May I ask why you chose not to use GJ Gardiner? I'm actually meeting with one of the sales guys tomorrow for an appointment. Definitely not signing anything yet… 3 13248 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17591 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 9565 |
