Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 21, 2016 11:39 am Hi all, We are rapidly approaching lock up and have asked the builder for keys so we can still get inside. The builder has advised they don't give keys as there are liability issues with us being onsite unsupervised. Whilst I understand and appreciate this, we would like to keep an eye on things, take photos of progress etc. What have other people done? Has anyone managed to get keys? Thanks! Re: Keys During Build 2Mar 21, 2016 12:01 pm I don't think builders generally give you the keys to handover. My builder said he didn't mind me being on site, as long as someone was there, either a tradesperson or site supervisor. Just for safety issues mostly, could you imagine if you wandered about on your own and hurt yourself or damaged the house? Plus the builder said he would schedule a walk through after each stage as well. Re: Keys During Build 3Mar 21, 2016 5:12 pm I think you will struggle to get keys but, like aloenyx said, you could negotiate times to be there when tradies are there so you can still keep an eye on things.
