Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 18, 2016 8:37 am Hi guys,
Very new here, and will most likely do this piecemeal as i don't have the attention span to do it in one sitting. So my wife and I decided to start thinking about buying a house/building a house, and with the prices here we quickly established that it would be just as cheap to build our home, than buy an existing house. A family member (a builder) quickly pointed us in the direction of Pycon, stating that the finished product would be as good as he would be able to complete given our budget. So here are our timings: 15/10/15 - we met with the builder for the first time, and made a couple of adjustments to their Hampton Plan. We moved the wall between the garage and the media 600mm to accommodate some stainless steel shelving we have and are happy to use. 15/10/15 - during the day, my wife, picked everything for the entire house, of which she has only changed the outdoor tile. Carpet, tiles, kitchen cupboards, PC Items, paint colours - everything. This was made a whole heap easier of course because I am such a good husband . 30/10/15 - signed contracts. After showing the schedule of finishes to the family member, they basically told us that we wouldn't over any of our inclusions. So we signed. 13/11/15 - Plans sent to council. 12/1/16 - Land Settled. 18/2/16 - Setout completed. 22/2/16 - Slab Laid. 9/3/16 - Framework started 15/3/16 - Roof Trusses completed. 13/4/16 - Brickwork finished. 29/4/16 - Plaster mostly finished. Below are the house plans and a photo as of yesterday. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Any comments would be amazing. Re: Building with Pycon in Port Macquarie 2Mar 18, 2016 1:24 pm Welcome!!! I love your plans. Very practical and the pool in the center will look pretty awesome. Love the extra large shower in the en suite I don't know how people survived with 900x900 showers.. oh wait I still live in a house with one. Your build is moving very quickly, your so lucky I bought land in July 2014 and I should be starting to build next month. Would be great to see some samples of your colour selections. The builders display home was a 2 story version of this, and WAY out of our price range. But we definitely loved being able to see the pool from bed and the kitchen table etc. We will also love the shower . Yeah, we are really lucky. We nearly didn't have a block but the builders did us an amazing favour. I will get the boss to take a pic of her, i mean our, colour selections tonight. I pretty much let her do whatever she wanted, but mostly off whites and browns. Will post tomorrow hopefully. In the meantime, we have a roof (or most of one anyway). Now my mind turns to the garden/yard etc, and I am scared hahaha. Re: Building with Pycon in Port Macquarie 4Mar 18, 2016 4:44 pm Love your roof colour, is that walnut? Oh wow, what happened with your block? I was debating between two (Same size, same street, about 10 houses apart) but one was in an earlier stage which was expecting to title 6 months earlier than the second block. I took the second block as I needed time to save.. and funnily enough, the 1st block titled the month mine was meant to.. and mine took another 10 months!! Oh well Haha, I would love to see your wife's selections then. Very kind of you to let her make the choices! I'm building on my own, so I got to make all the decisions. White and browns sound nice. Completely forgot about all this. Yep, I think the roof is walnut, and the bricks are woodchip, though from what I understand they have discontinued the brick. Which is strange as I love them. Surprises me how many place go with white brick AND a white roof, doesn't sit right in my head hahha. We had all but signed up for a block with our current builder, but after meeting the business owner on site, the following morning we found out that they had already sold it but not updated the database. So they sold us a nice big corner block that they were going to build villas on. I will try to organise some photo's, but we have caramel patterned tiles, and off white walls. The same coloured floor tiles in the bathrooms, with white floor to ceiling tiles and a grey/brown feature tile in showers/behind the freestanding bath. Since the last update we have had electrical and plumbing roughin, the walls and ceilings are in, and I think cornices would have been started today. They wanted our tile and paint selections by Monday, which I imagine means that will start in the next couple weeks. Pool should start in the next couple of weeks, so that we can use the fill to start the landscaping, which is a whole other kettle of fish. Where we live at the moment is about an extra 20 minute drive PAST where we are building, and that extra drive is getting VERY old VERY fast, and now stopping by every day doesn't help BECAUSE I CANT SEE ANYTHING. Will sneak in on Sunday and update photos. I know a good removalist Hahaha. Gyprock should be finished this week, tilers to start Monday with the kitchen to be installed in the next 3 weeks. I assume this all means we are getting rather close. We have had no dramas since the slab went down, was a bit anti-climatic after reading alot of posts on here hahaha. At least you guys arent alone out there anymore hahaha. My partner and I built in Kempsey and moved in almost a year ago now. We too loved the display home your building but it just wouldn't suit our block. Your welcome to have a read through my thread.
