Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 61Sep 13, 2008 12:05 am Oh Stu you are funny, we're building with Perrys too as is Kylie, our liq damages are all the same - it's standard. I would LOVE to hear your experiences if you don't feel comfortable sharing on the forum please do PM me. You certainly are not the only one dealing with crap from this company if that's any moral support for you. What stage are you at now?
I have had absolutely NO peace of mind as yet more like been OUT of my mind . The funniest part is when I just read your posting I was thinking P.H who the heck is that.....?!!!!! Then when I saw the mission statement I thought hang on a minute I know that one...!!!! This is how I've spent most of my days doing trying to get somewhere, sending emails, chasing up, trying to source information, my eyes should be square by now and my mother told me television was bad for me when I was I kid!!!!::computer:: Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 62Sep 13, 2008 12:13 am Oh stu also forgot to ask where are you building and which house are you building....are you sourcing a lot of stuff yourselves. It would be incredibly helpful if you could share quotes etc as Kylie did with her driveway etc as we are doing a fair bit ourselves. We're coming back for a week next month and have SOOO much to do it's not funny so any info help that I can source beforehand is hugely appreciated. Also going to be an interesting experience as we were coming on our own and now we have to bring our toddler along too - hmmm how much patience does a toddler have when mummy and daddy have people to meet and things to organise....any parents out there will know the answer to THAT one!!!!!!! Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 63Sep 15, 2008 6:13 pm just for those who are watching this thread...I have posted my plans on a separate thread
hope this link works! http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=9430 Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 66Sep 21, 2008 5:42 pm we have just finished building the glenreigh the biggest one it took over 18 moths and 4 different foremen they will keep extenting your contract so watch out it in the contract they are allow to do.I had legal advice we were going to take to court at our expense to see what was reasonable . we are still having a problem with them they charged as $611 for something they never did they told us to sent a letter to get money back we did this in april have not heard from them I guess we should count ourselves lucky it was not more money
I could go on and on we were happy with quality Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 67Sep 21, 2008 7:47 pm Hi Yvette, good to hear you're happy with quality. When you talk about the contract I'm guessing you're talking about delays for completion? If so how long were they over and for what reasons? How's your house now is it completed? Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 68Sep 26, 2008 7:51 am Aaargh! Ive just about had it with these guys. Our verbal agreements with the sales guy are worth a big fat zero, BEWARE, BEWARE!!! It seems that we are now paying twice for some very expensive items. I hope HO shows some mercy. Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 69Sep 26, 2008 10:44 am Yes my house it completed we build the glenreigh the biggest one on 5 acres. They added about 35 days for rain because it rained in bris but not out here the extra days we added on top of whats all ready on the contract. they also add extra 2 weeks for a delay in kitchen, there are a few small things but not to bad Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 70Sep 26, 2008 12:17 pm Stu, I hope its not the guy at the Calamvale display...we heard from someone in the company that this person leads people up the garden path all the time...
Goodluck, and I hope that HO looks after you, afterall, it is one of their sales people that they are allowing to sprout random costs! If it is the person from Calamvale, he is why we went elsewhere as his prices appeared to be inaccurate and plucked from the air. We just didn't feel right, so we are dealing with people about an 1hr away just for their customer service. Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 71Oct 01, 2008 9:59 am yes we deal with the guy from calmvale but had no problems with him at all we had no extra expenses and all the figures were spot on.We were going to go with hallmark but they were very pushed and were trying to sell us all the extras we didnot wanted eg upgraded kitchen etc and the salesperon at perrys didnot do that. Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 72Oct 04, 2008 7:36 pm Just a quick update, as yet, there has been no mercy from HO. I have my doubts at this point. We are seriously considering contacting the ACCC.
I have been reading a lot about, the misleading and deceptive conduct provisions of the Trade Practices Act 1974. Here is an interesting article that I found which sounds slightly familiar. http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/86783/fromItemId/378002 Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 73Oct 04, 2008 9:01 pm Hi, for those in Queensland experiencing the excuse of 'can't get tradies' as resons for 'incalculable delays', an interesting article is in the Winter 2005 edition of Building Links, published by the Queensland BSA. Page 7 of this issue they discuss incalculable delays.
http://www.bsa.qld.gov.au/Home/Products ... er2005.htm Garn Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 74Oct 20, 2008 2:56 pm We have signed a contract with Perry Homes and have been frustrated with the game of Chinese Whispers between Head Office, Sales Consultants, Architect, Building Supervisor... We looked at the display home in Warner Lakes in April and liked what we saw. We discussed building timeframes and were told hopefully by Christmas, but in reality we knew late January to early February was more realistic.
Now mid October, we only have a stack of papers to show for our money! Start date came and went and they keep on giving us a different reason why it has been delayed. Today for instance the tile shop (Amber Tiles) phoned me up as they received a fax back from head office (oringinal request dated 28/8/08, response received 17/10/08) advising $684 extra to lay rectified wall tiles to bathroom & ensuite, calculated at $30 per metre extra for entire 22.8m - except they are so stupid there isn't even 22.8m of wall tiling in 2 bathrooms!!! They quoted based on floor area and not wall area! Hello - let me talk to the tiler! They refuse to lay a tile larger than 400mm in the wet areas (even paying premium price) even though the 3 display homes we visited all have 450mm tiles in the bathrooms, laundry's and toilets, and even in the shower hob! Before this latest saga, they told us we had an outstanding variation not signed so construction could not start - it was to reinstate the WIR door that the architect left off! As if an internal door would hold up construction anyway! We had signed the variation and sent it back same day, but crossed out the $200 adminstration charge saying we dispute it as it was the architects error, not ours. Now it seems they are holding our construction to ransom over it! We didn't find the colour selection process too bad though. I had selected the bricks, paint colour, tiles, kitchen laminate etc before I went in, and were happy to have standard issue for most stuff. Colour Consultant (Manly) pointed to 4 different doors and said which one, so I picked the most attractive. Then went to window frames, same: Pick the best of 4. Gutter profiles, tank colour, wardrobe doors, taps etc. The only thing we insisted on, were different soap dishes that we included them in the tile selection. I was out within one hour - not inspired particularly, but glad to have things moving! That was back in May!!! I keep on holding out for when everything gets handed over to the building supervisor, whom we have been told by several sources is a good one. Hopefully then things will get kick started and we'll have our house built by our new completion date of 15th May 2009. 8 Days short of 12 months and there are no guarantees it will be finished then! We will definately be getting a 'final building inspection' done as part of handover. Paying $400 to have a professional builder go over it with a fine-toothed comb will be well worth it! Recommend it to all you guys too, then you won't have arguments over who chipped the bathtub! So anyway, hopefully it will be all worth it in the long run, but next time I'm buying an established place!!! Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 75Nov 01, 2008 7:00 am Im sorry to hear about your delays shy We have been going through the guys at warner too. We have had massive issues with communication at head office too! We also had the experience of completely chosing a house (the summerhouse), going through changes, putting a deposit down for plan-draw and soil tests etc then only to be told that it was going up by $15 000 and we will have to incur this cost, so we then chose a smaller house and made less changes etc so it has been frustrating all the back and forth now for us since about january this year.
I haven't posted for ages because we have been having our own set of issues funnily enough with the banks and not PERRY! We were supposed to be already started and our plans haven't even gone into council yet because we were given unconditional approval and then WHICH bank 'lost' some of our paperwork twice so we were unable to proceed until that was rectified which has now took nearly 2 months! Then the financial market collapsed and we seriously debated about not going ahead at all... FRUSTRATING TIMES and also scary times because of the current economic climate and we are scared that our land and house value will drop by some scary amount.....so we have gone from so excited about building to ARE WE DOING THE RIGHT THING????? *sigh* Hey Brisvegas where are you??? I hope things are going okay with your build! Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 76Nov 01, 2008 10:36 pm Firstly Shy, welcome to the forum and god do I ever know how you feel! Do a search on Perrys here and you'll find other tales of woe and frustrations mostly to do with poor communications with head office. I particularly relate to your frustrations in late start of construction do a search on me and you'll find the details but they were a bit over 2 months late in starting from the date in our contract and I had to threaten breach of contract to get any action in the end! Just don't let up keep on at them and keep us all posted. Secondly g'day Kylie I haven't posted for ages either! Was thinking about you the other day actually. We were back in Oz for a week to see how things were progressing meet with contracters etc. The progress has been impressive even in the week we were there but then we too experienced troubles relating to the bank who had stuffed up and not made the progress payments which resulted in Perrys playing *** for tat and holding us in breach! They of course made out like we were personally responsible & of course didn't appreciate my pointing out that the bank did not have the monopoly on screwing up..... It's incredibly frustrating having no control over such matters and having to deal with incompetence but I'm starting to get used to it now and just dealing with problems as they occur and trying to ensure things get done as they should
I will start a new thread soon showing photos but basically its now at 'Fixing stage' where all the internal stuff gets done. I was glad to have a chance to finally see our house in progress, quite a surreal experience as we've had to rely on getting photos via email to see anything - our neighbours have been brilliant, unfortunately Perrys have only sent a few pics but I've asked the latest SS (first one left) to send regular photos and updates so we'll see what happens! After about 30 seconds I noticed the first obvious error, we're having obscure glass to all bathroom / toilet windows, all were obscure with the exception of the separate toilet all the windows are along the same wall so it was very obvious and jumped out immediately to me......makes me rather nervous what will happen during the fit out inside but what can I do?! Anyway, they had anticipated finishing by Xmas but thanks to the bank and the subsequent week's delay don't know if that's still viable, waiting to hear from the SS. The last few months have been wild in terms of financial crisis and what's going on around the world but I hope you'll still be able to go ahead Kylie, keep us posted on what's happening. I was going to PM you to ask if your friend ever came up with a recommendation for building inspection as I think we'll use someone for a final inspection. Both our neighbours have a fair amount of knowledge and have built before plus one is now in the industry so he's been keeping an eye out for us and keeping us posted on some things but we'd still like to get someone in if possible. Trying to sort out logistics of getting back for the walkthrough as my husbands unlikely to be able to join me so I might be back on my own with our toddler Anyway, let me know if your friend had any joy on that front. Keep us posted, it's funny because I just logged back in yesterday and was quickly scrolling through looking for posts from you...! Take care Kylie and Shy give em hell Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 77Nov 13, 2008 9:14 am Well, weve now been in our new house for 1 month and working hard to get it up to living standards. We have done a tonne of excavations, planting grass seed building retaining walls etc...fhew! what a lot of work.
The build quality is 90% which is not good but not bad i think, they stuffed up on a couple of really silly things that could have easily been avoided. Im pretty handy so ill just sort them out myself and avoid the frustration with PH's stupid excuses and reasonings (ie: "its our policy not to do that" or "its not Australian Standard" [when it is!]) We recieved no fair play from PH when it came to PH's overcharging (or double charging) for some very expensive items. Im very dissapointed with management for not delivering on promisses to review the issues. (ha, ha, as if they give a $#!^) Otherwise on a brighter note, the house is really getting some personality, the first signs of grass are appearing (bought a 50kg bag of seed from Bunnings and spread it everywhere with a brilliant $8 plastic seed sowing machine. Spent about 4 grand on Bobcat and excavators getting the driveway and gardens right before we do anything else (well worth every penny id say) Anybody in Ipswich need some landscaping done, speak to me first, these guys were magicians. Just finished concrete grinding 85m SQ of internal floors myself and it looks awesome (spent $1000 and saved $7000 on floor covering for my troubles). It is very messy, so send the wife far away(or for the ladies... go on holiday and leave the husband to do it... trust me, you dont want to be there when there is an inch of MUD on your floor and dust on everything. Things do get better for you psychologicaly after the dealings (or lack of) with PH HO, have finished. So Happy Happy, thoughts, and try to forget the past. The good news is that there is light at the end of the tunnel, even if you have to be robbed to get there. Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 79Dec 17, 2008 11:56 am Hey Guys,
Hope all works out for you all.. ( and me!) We are building at Coominya, near Wivenhoe Dam, and have had delays with the rain. Site scrape is now scheduled in for 5th January, and drains going in on the 8th. Should have slab sometime soon after that. We have just been hit with a big bill for our driveway.. due to the weather lately, we have to supply all weather access, at a cost of approx $3500.. Our driveway is 85m long, and we are only putting down crushed sandstone and cement mixed in.. wow! Could almost have it concreted for that ( hubby is a concreter!). Kylie, how is things going.. what decisions have you made. Stu, congratulations, all the best with settling in.. do you have pics? -Sha Re: Is anyone building with PERRY HOMES in QLD or Northern NSW?? 80Dec 17, 2008 6:21 pm Hi Sha,
Our plans are in council, we have just had our water connected yesterday by the council so it shouldn't be too long before we get moving We went to the 11th hour of nearly pulling out, but on the day we were like if we don't hear from the bank or Perry, we are pulling out, the bank and Perry contacted us saying it was good to go That sux about your driveway! We thought ours was long at 30m Lucky your husband is a concreter! We are in the process of sorting out fences and things. Since head office have taken control of things and we now have contact people directly in Perry like the wonderful Erin who looks after all the plans, we have had no dramas at all. My work colleague who built at Walloon, has done nothing but rave about Perry - they have given them a top quality house 2 months early. (fingers crossed we get the same!). I guess we will be starting at similar times, ours probably a little bit after you so I will be following your build closely! GOOD LUCK! Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Hi all, new to this group. Been watching the site for a while to get an idea of comments and help from everyone.
