Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 14, 2016 1:17 am Hi,
I have been looking at this site for a while trying to get ideas and reviews on home building companies. After buying a couple of established houses we thought we'd try and see how we go with building as we have found that we could not find exactly what we wanted established or if we did, it was pretty $$$$$$. We came down to two companies Aveling and HGWA we really loved the Aveling home but with HGWA we felt that we were getting more for our dollar (though as we get closer to pre-start I am starting to doubt this as a lot of the standard Aveling products are upgrades for HGWA). I am basically finding now that I am two months past singing our contract and I am all ready kicking myself and thinking I'm just going to loose $2000 as the stress of choosing colors, making sure everything is recorded correctly and that everything I choose looks good is killing me as I am always second guessing and changing my mind. However I have seen a lot of beautiful and well thought out designs and colour selections posted on the site which I might have to borrow and I will probably be asking for a lot of advice to help me though this journey. 12-01-2016- Signed preliminary contract 05-04-2016 - Pre-start 28-04-2016 - Final contract signed and sent back 03-05-2016 - Water tap installed on block 10-05-2016 - Builders permit arrived from City of Wanneroo 03-06-2016 - Slab laid 22-06-2016- Brickie's started 01-07-2016 -Brickwork completed. 14-07-2016 -Roof framework completed 21-07-2016 -Roof completed 04-08-2016 -Grey set completed 06-08-2016 -Ceilings installed 17-08-2016 - White set completed 23-08-16 - Glass installed 06-09-2016 - Tile meeting and wet area tiling commenced 10-09-2016 - Wet area tiling finished 19-09-2016 - Floor tiling commenced aquatec applied 29-09-2016 - Electrical cable pulled through and holes cut for down lights 30-09-2016 - Garage door and down pipes installed 04-10-2016 - Taps installed 29-09-2016 - Stove installed 05-10-2016 - Air-conditioning installed 11-10-2016 - Glass shower screens and robe doors installed 12-10-2016 - House cleaned 13-10-2016 - Flyscreens installed 19-10-2016 - Brick paving completed 21-10-2016 - Site Clean 26-10-2016 - PCI 01-11-2016 - Received our keys Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 2Mar 14, 2016 2:04 am Hi i know exactly how you feel. Hubby and kids feel in love with one of the aveling displays, we looked into it more and thought mmmm yer we like them. Kept looking at more displays as you do and we noticed hgwa but they didnt stand out straight away. I finally found a design i loved but it was red ink and when i discovered the price i started looking again. We ended up signing with 101 residential, they costum designed us a house and everything was on budget until we got final paperwork and they had added extra $40k almost ontop and that was a finished house either. So we pulled outta that. , lost 3k 😢 and signed with home group. We are now building the southport although we have changed design slightly. I do feel though now we have done prestart i probably should have stayed with 101 as most of their standards are hgwa upgrades. Oh well to late now. Good luck with everything. We are hoping for slab in 8ish wks Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 3Mar 14, 2016 2:16 am We have made some changes to the Bordeaux http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u482/romanc76/20151114%20bagatelle%20plansjpg_Page1_Image1_zpswuo1wc5a.jpg Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 6Mar 14, 2016 1:01 pm Hi and welcome great design, love the kitchen, larder and store is a good idea Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 8Mar 14, 2016 9:46 pm Hi romance 76, Welcome to the journey! What a gorgeous huge home plan! Plenty of rooms for everyone Whats your plan for bed 5? A games room of sorts? Hi, We have four children but only three are currently at home the 5th bedroom will be a games room until he decides he wants to come home again. Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 13Mar 16, 2016 12:04 am Just wondering for those who built with HGWA did they use the tiles supplied by HGWA or did they go to Crosby's or European Ceramics as I went and had a look at Crosby's and decided that they had tiles that better suited the look that I was going for. However the downside is that I have to pay $150 admin costs to HGWA and extra supply and labour costs as I have selected 300x300 which are free if you use HGWA but cost if you use their alternative suppliers. Does anybody know a ballpark figure of HGWA charge so I can add this to my pre-start budget. Cheers Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 14Mar 16, 2016 1:39 am Yes we went with crosbys as i liked their range. I was pussed about the 300x300 tiles cause i really wanted them but didnt wanna pay. We stayed within what we were allowed and paid the $150 admin. Im not sure the difference of price but if you are only changing the floor tiles to 300x300 in wet area i dont see it being a huge cost. Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 15Mar 17, 2016 11:51 pm Hi Romance76 we are just finished our tile selection through Crosby and went outside the size range Prestart is in 3 weeks time so I'll keep you posted about what the final cost was!! Sooooo jealous you are building the Bordeaux we loved that home and our rep talked us out of it!! Pretty happy with the design we went with though!! We signed on in Dec 2015 with HGWA first docs ready 1st April 2016. Was really taken aback by the small range shown at the tile and laminate meeting but overall still relatively happy!!! Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 16Mar 18, 2016 12:03 am Hi Michellecandice, that would be great if you could let us know, we must be roughly on the same time frame as our pre-start is tentively booked for the 4th April as they are hoping to have our 1st documents sent out to us by the end of next week. What house did you select? Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 17Mar 18, 2016 10:26 pm These are the tiles I have selected from Crosby's but between now are pre-start I will probably change my mind. http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u482/romanc76/Mobile%20Uploads/f37574e1-ebdb-4ff2-9141-73fdc7cafd9a_zpshk5aq7rt.jpg Ensuite http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u482/romanc76/Mobile%20Uploads/c8cea2ac-b2ec-474b-a7e9-a8dfd0c2f787_zpsbpagzgtg.jpg Kitchen and larder http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u482/romanc76/95e82c9b-6b30-4818-a246-88fa020e3fec_zpspm0iqmg8.jpg bathroom powder room and laundry http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u482/romanc76/floor%20tiles_zpsztgqm1kj.jpg floor tiles Re: Home Group WA- The Bordeaux 19Apr 07, 2016 1:51 pm Posting to follow, we are also building The Bordeaux.
