Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 581Nov 01, 2017 1:29 pm G'day everyone. Regarding the council approval, contract etc.... We signed our contract a couple of months ago and that was before council approval, which we believe is standard. The way I understand it, is that you sign the contract and pay the required fee and they then move forward in dealing with the council. Update on our status... Signed contract a couple of months ago, but that had to have a bunch of fixes. That took maybe a month. Got it back and Bathrooms tiling was slightly wrong due to miscommunication in paperwork from consultant who left. Not entirely their fault as we did miss it in the plans. Been waiting 5 weeks for that to come back and had a phone call Monday to say that an easement that runs down the side of our block has caused issues with drainage and the council. They have submitted a letter on our behalf, asking for permission to access the easement to resolve the drainage (storm water) issue. Should hopefully hear back in a few days. Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 582Nov 01, 2017 3:05 pm Hi Dennis thread, just a quick note to say that I will no longer be posting as Dennis have told us they cannot build on our block 1 week before the contract was due. We are not happy at all......anyway thanks for all of the advice and good luck to those about to and currently building....maybe I'll catch you in another thread once we find another builder.... Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 583Nov 01, 2017 5:10 pm Bloody hell! Sorry to read this. I have read your previous comments about the trees, so, why exactly are they not going ahead? Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and hope there will be smooth sailing ahead for you when you do get something going. Take care. Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 584Nov 03, 2017 9:56 am So disappointing Mathjic. Good luck going forward. Fingers crossed on the easement issues rattleau. No real updates from me really - demo quotes coming in hopefully in the next week. Power pit appication completed. Tree removal permit approved. Decluttering and packing in progress! OMG How much stuff can one accumulate???! Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 585Nov 03, 2017 4:57 pm Lenz88 OMG How much stuff can one accumulate???! YEP! My wife hired a skip and was ruthless when we did up the house before selling. She then got rid of more when we moved to this place. We now have rooms with so many boxes stacked and a utility room out the back that is wall to wall with full boxes, plus so much outdoor stuff sitting in a spot in the back yard. It's like we haven't thrown stuff out at all. Wife swears that once this build happens and we start moving in, we take the bare essentials and the rest either goes to Ebay, a garage sale, charity or the bin. I think this is going to give her a headache more than the build ever will. Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 586Nov 03, 2017 9:14 pm rattleAU Lenz88 OMG How much stuff can one accumulate???! Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 587Nov 14, 2017 10:24 am Progress! 2 weeks since they submitted the letter on our behalf, asking about tapping into the easement due to drainage issues (which nobody has still gotten back to us and explained) and I got forwarded an email yesterday. The email contains council approval for everything and a bunch of other related documents for water, energy rating, surveyor, plans with council approval stamps etc... The email is from the surveying company, so no comments in the email or phone calls from anyone, but I'm assuming we are officially approved to go ahead. Now waiting for DFH to let us know what is going on. Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 588Nov 14, 2017 10:38 am Great news! My update! Finalising details for knock down in mid Jan. Have to sort out rental - fingers crossed - its not going to be easy, I don't expect - neither my husband nor I have rented since uni days!! LOL But have organized a storage unit so worse case scenario, we will have to move in with the folks - not ideal as their place is tiny!! At this stage, if it goes to plan and knock down happens in mid Jan - it will take roughly 9 weeks till they hit the site. So, that takes us up to April. Exciting!! There is a new Macedon display in Lyndhurst and we went for a looksee this past weekend. So exciting! And so glad we made the changes we did - the bathroom in particular. The decluttering is going great guns!! Still a heck of a lot of crap but OMG - I think we have enough lego to build the house!!! =D =D Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 589Nov 14, 2017 1:43 pm Nice. Would be good to walk into a display and look at where you would put things and just to see the actual space in reality. There's no display for our, so it's all up to our imagination at the moment. Update on my update from earlier today... Got a phone call from the plumber to ask about the distance of the of storm water pipes from the house and the placement of the low pressure septic (grinder pump). They are booked in for Monday. First I heard of that. Wife just drove out to the block (30 mins away) and pegs and boards are out for the scrape. Would have been nice if DFH told us that they were starting, after all this waiting, hah, hah... Anyway, we are officially off and running! Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 592Dec 04, 2017 1:01 pm G'day maddy.r and welcome to the DFH discussion. No, sorry I haven't seen one of them or know of one built. Good luck with your journey. I created my own discussion last night for our progress, since we now have some action and the build has started. You can find the link here, if I have done it correctly.... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=90468 Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 593Jul 25, 2018 1:45 pm rtforresters So it's been about a month in our new home and we still have so much to do. Hi, we did it after handover. During the build contracts did you place batten light holders on the particular spots where you knew that pendants would be installed or did everything after the hand over ? I am in a process to sign contracts with dennis soon and requires 14 extra down lights along with pendant lights which is costing a lot by them and trying to get an insighst if it worth doing afterwards or doesnt make much difference. We had a friend install them so it was a lot cheaper. Almost finished with landscaping, etc. We are still waiting on DFH to come back to fix everything. We haven’t had the best of luck with our build. Hope yours will run a lot more smoothly Building with Dennis Family Homes Re: Building with Dennis Family Homes 599Jul 25, 2018 2:27 pm makes sense, I got 20 package for 20 down lights and needed around 14 more down lights and few pendants and they are quoting $140 for single down lights and almost double of it for the pendants which seems a lot. Yeh, it a bit of a rip off going through dfh. During the build we did ask their electrician how much they charge to do it and it was a lot cheaper.
