Have you moved in now? We're calling it our own Great Wall of China. We've started moving things but the big move will be this week. I've been following your build and so thrilled for you that you had a really positive experience with Fairhaven overall . Your house looks great ! I'm considering building the Glenaire with them due to their thoughtful design and inclusions. However I have found their quoting process is quite slow compared to other builders . The main concern I have though is the site costs which their sales rep have reassured me would be less than $10K, which is very low compared to the $50k other builders estimated. As much as I am hoping for this saving, I am sceptical how there can be such a difference? Are they quoting different inclusions in the site costs? We have a flat block of 0.5 to 1m fall on KDRB as well with 7.5 m setback, with a power pole in front but with an existing pit. Did the site cost they give you include OH&S, underground cables, cranes for overhead cables, scaffolding, service connections etc? I also noticed their inclusion is only for 5m setback for gas and water, compared to the 20 m for Porter Davis. Did you pay extra for service connections ? Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 234Nov 26, 2016 11:32 am Kat_1025 How's the landscaping coming along old bloke?? We're just fine tuning things with a landscaper, that was recommended by an excavator driver involved in our retaining wall (the fellow that was recommended to you turned out to be a dud and I wouldn't waste my time with him), and he will start in the next week or so. We only moved in yesterday and the driveway & path are now done, shutters/blinds/curtain being installed Tuesday, fence/gates Wednesday & home theatre Friday. I wouldn't take much notice of the sales rep's estimate/guess on your site costs and I doubt you will get away with $10K on a KDR - have you had soil tests & contour surveys done? Our setback is over 10m and we weren't charged any extra. They will arrange connection of power & gas and if they have to crane materials over above ground cables they will probably include a provisional amount under "Site Access" - they have to crane the roof trusses up on a 2 storey anyway. I'm only going through a revised quote at the moment and already lumped nearly 10k in zone surcharge + KDR cost ! We will go to soil test once we get all quotes finalized... Still keeping my fingers crossed though. Can't wait to see the landscaping on your place btw! Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 238Nov 28, 2016 3:11 pm We were told our site costs on a Fairhaven Whistler 286 would be around $15k, worst case, so we set aside $18k to cover ourselves only to find that the house also needed a full-length retaining wall. The site costs came in at $34k. That was a nasty shock to say the least. We've also just been told that we need to nominate who our 'site surveyor' will be. Did you need to contract a private surveyor? Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 239Nov 28, 2016 11:02 pm Mmm...that's a huge diffence andenright! I haven't set aside too much for site cost so real nervous about it. How steep was the fall of your land? I hadn't any mention of private surveyor , didn't know I'd need to find my own .
