Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 22May 09, 2016 8:15 pm It sure is Kat, it's starting to look like a house. Scaffolding, fascia, guttering, plumbing, electrical & roof should be following shortly. I love the butlers pantry, it's huge! Hope the journey goes smooth. Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 24May 12, 2016 9:01 am Thanks Snyde - it's one of the many things my wife loves about the house. Thanks also for the details on the mixer tap - my wife made a couple of "hasty" decisions at the colour appointment last year and is now rethinking them. We'll go and have a look at the mixer taps on the weekend. I'm following your build with great interest. I've short listed Fairhaven for a double story build. My and my fiance's land is still 12 months away from title though so haven't locked in a builder yet. Look forward to see your updates and good luck with the build. Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 28May 18, 2016 10:48 am Kat_1025 Hey!! How's the build coming along? Have a look at respected landscapes! They're based in Bayswater. Dave398 what house are you looking at? Hi Kat. Looking at the Glenaire with a few modifications depending on how flexible they are. Haven't sat down with anyone at Fairhaven yet and discussed it. Oh beautiful! If you ask at the display they should be able to give you a list of the standard changes you can make! We are building the Newport and they were really flexible and let me re design the whole kitchen! Good luck with your selection! Choosing a builder is hard work haha Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 30May 18, 2016 1:33 pm We had our independent inspection last week and had a "cast of thousands" looking over the slab & frame (Independent Inspectors x2, Fairhaven's engineer, our SS, myself & my wife - nothing major came out of it. I had a chat with one of the Independent Inspector's and he told me that they don't really find much with the Fairhaven houses that they see which was pleasing to hear. We've got fascia & guttering going up at the moment and had roof tiles delivered the other day so the roof should be on shortly - photos to follow. Thanks for the landscaping details Kat - have you used them before? Did they tick all the boxes? Hi Dave- based on our experience thus far, I'd recommend building with Fairhaven. Yeah I'm finding the picking a builder part is one of the hardest things I've done in a while haha Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 34May 19, 2016 10:04 am I just saw your site costs in another thread - can't believe it. We have a sloping block too; both the cross fall and the front-to-back fall are less steep than the slope on yours, and our site costs are 100k. Quite jealous! Looking great so far though, and glad the independent inspectors didn't pick up much. Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 35May 19, 2016 10:06 am "Thanks for the landscaping details Kat - have you used them before? Did they tick all the boxes?" Oldbloke I haven't used them personally but they came highly recommended to me! Glad the inspection went well and the house is looking great! Will have a roof and walls before you know it Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 36May 19, 2016 10:41 am Hi PVBuild, Yes site costs are a killer on sloping blocks. We put it in to perspective by calculating that it was going to cost us $100K plus (stamp duty & agent's commission) to sell & buy again and you never get exactly what you want exactly where you want it. Thanks Kat - we'll contact Respected Landscapes and get them to have a look at the site. Roof tilers should be starting today or tomorrow & brickies should be starting early June. Having said that, our site costs with our custom design were about 250k . Sad. Which is why we are now looking at a project builder. Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 38May 19, 2016 11:15 am $250K? -they must have been quoting gold piers/footings & diamond encrusted retaining walls! My fault really for a complicated design. Bearer & joist, with a heap of strip footings, on a large single storey footprint. Split level with 3 different FFL heights. Really complicated and I'm guessing a lot of labour cost in there. Plus we have complicated OHS requirements for the street too. No-one said this would be easy... Re: Building Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven Homes 40May 19, 2016 1:53 pm A complicated or "unique" design tends to have that effect with builders. We looked at various builders & floor plans until we found one that suited our needs and we didn't have to make any structural changes (apart from moving a non load bearing wall 400mm) and spent the budget inside where you can see it.
