Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2016 1:07 pm Hello, I have been looking through this forum a lot and thought that I should share our experience with building our first home. We signed up to Red Ink Homes back in October 2015 and after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, signed our PCQ on 31st December 2015. Currently we are at the stage of settling on our block. We have chosen our colours with the recommended Interior Designer on 9th February 2016 and Pre-start was on the 2nd March 2016. We are now trying to decide what we should get RedInk to do and what can be done later on.
If you have any suggestions on Tilers, Painters, Carpentry or Lighting, they would be appreciated Signed papers for block of land - 6th Dec 2015 PCQ signed - 31st Dec 2015 Interior design meeting - 9th Feb 2016 Signed contracts - 20th Feb 2016 Finance approval - 2nd Mar 2016 Pre-start - 2nd March 2016 First home owners grant approval - 23rd Mar 2016 Land settlement - 29th Mar 2016 Building Permit from Shire - 31st May 2016 Footings for Slab - 9th Jun 2016 Slab Poured - 11th Jun 2016 Bricks Delivered - 22nd Jun 2016 Finalised Plans - 30th Jun 2016 Brickwork commenced - 30th Jun 2016 Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 3Mar 11, 2016 4:29 pm Hi Nyan, House plans and colour selections look great. Sorry can't give ya many suggestions on tilers etc, but depends on how much ur willing to do when u get ur keys. If ya prefer to have everything done before moving in then get builder to do. I'm doing main floor tiles, carpets, painting and lighting myself wen I get keys as I think it'll be bit cheaper and can probably bargain certain items down and find better deals directly as builder will charge full price. Hi robarcher, Thank you for your reply we are thinking of doing most items afterwards and now that i think of it, it is probably better to see what the build looks like finished and then find everything that matches. I am now second guessing the layout of the laundry in particular and whether the second linen cupboard should be flipped so it is inside the laundry. This forum is giving me too many ideas! Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 5Mar 13, 2016 12:03 pm No worries Nylan. But yeh doing afterwards gives ya more time to decide what colour tiles carpets etc while house is getting built. This forum is great for ideas hahah but try not to let it affect and double guess ya self. Just think how ur layout will work for u. You could flip linen so its in laundry but then you'll have to close laundry door to get into that part of linen cupboard? Love the layout tho. Gonna be a nice house. Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 6Mar 13, 2016 7:31 pm Hi Nyan, Welcome aboard! Congratulations on your new build Great design - love the way you have recessed the wardrobes in beds 3 and 4 and the way the activity room opens to the alfresco. Was that second linen cupboard originally a powder room style sink? I think it will work, you could also use it for board games and that kind of thing given its proximity to the activity. What's going in the recess by your kitchen? I also like your theatre with recessed ceiling and walk through wardrobe! Hi Nyan, I like your plans and selections, and will be following your build One suggestion you may not have considered, yes if you flip linen 2, the laundry door would foul easy access. My suggestion would be a sliding door for the laundry on the inside of the laundry door frame instead of 820w, make the opening smaller to suit, "remove" linen 2 and extend linen 1 across, but leave enough of a gap for the sliding door to move into so it can open Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 8Mar 14, 2016 9:04 pm We have decided to leave the second linen cupboard as is, but i have asked if it is possible to have double doors like this pic put on instead. (I'm guessing that this would be a custom door and cost a lot!) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have finally settled on the colour for the bathroom cupboards and laundry bench top as I went to the display home and matched the tiles (bought a wet area floor tile and bathroom feature wall tile from the tiling company) with the little swatches. Decided to go with 'Bark' instead of 'cappuccino' as the later was too grey rather than the brown look we are after. Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 10Mar 14, 2016 9:50 pm I love the skinny double doors - we are looking at a smaller home plan for an investment and it has an awkward linen cupboard, I was actually thinking last night this could be the solution to it! Ah great minds think alike! I went to homebase expo today as well and they quoted $86 per door. (410mm wide) it may be something we do later on down the track if it is too expensive through redink. We had the flooring package but then got quotes direct from imported ceramics and Trevor's carpet and they gave much better prices. We decided to go wooden floors in the end they are warmer, you don't break stuff as easy. Good luck with it. Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 14May 17, 2016 6:28 pm Hey there! Can I ask how your experience with redink was? And what plan did you choose? Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 15May 21, 2016 12:18 am Our design is based on the ashby but we have pretty much customised the whole thing. We haven't had too many issues with redink other than slow responses at prestart. We are only at building permit stage. Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 16May 25, 2016 2:28 am Hi Teresa, I'm very close to choosing Redink as our choice of builder. I'm curious as our block is not titled till January you said you done pre start etc before titled blocks? I'm just curious as to what exactly they alow you to do with them before the block is titled ? Thanks Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 17May 25, 2016 9:16 am You can choose all of your design, colour choices, fittings pretty much everything but they can't finalise the pad height until titles as the surveyors aren't allowed on site until titles or just before titles. Eleanor is fantastic at redink she will work with you on a great affordable design 😊 Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 18May 25, 2016 10:19 am Thankyou for that info. Iv met with Eleanor she is great il have a word with her again. Thankyou Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 19May 25, 2016 11:18 am No problems, just let me know if you have any questions, we have learnt so much in the last few months Re: Our First Home with RedInk Homes 20May 25, 2016 11:27 am Commenting to follow your build - we very nearly went with Red Ink so it'll be interesting to watch your house come together.
