Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 08, 2016 3:04 pm We're about to start our KDR and we arranged demolition through our builder. I'm sure it is costing us more money but didn't want to have to deal with organising it ourselves. Last week our SS (who we haven't met yet) rang to say demolition was booked for Friday this week - yay! Today I get an email from the demolisher saying it's actually booked for the 17th, and we have to notify neighbours, and we have to send some form to council, and we have to give them the go ahead including answering some question about sediment control that I know nothing about. If you arranged demolition through the builder, did the builder manage all of that? I'm surprised and annoyed to have to handle this stuff directly and I can't even call our SS because he is on annual leave. Looks like we've already encountered our first delay and we haven't even started yet. Re: If you arranged demolition through your builder... 2Mar 08, 2016 3:48 pm Wow. So it sounds like they will do the demo but you have to get Council Approval or organise a private certifier to issue a certificate for the demolition. Quickest way would be to go through a certifier I believe, but there is a 14 day neighbour notification period required I understand, so you should speak to someone ASAP. Can you speak to your builder to ensure they haven't initiated this process? But still, it sounds like all the builder is doing is calling them up to book them, and probably charging you 20% on top, or more, for the privilege. They may have organised to abolish the gas and electricity, but that's not difficult. For the council questions, the best thing is to give the list to the demolition company, and they will give you the answers to put on the application. The demolition company should be able to help you through it all, but I agree you don't seem to be getting the value out of the builder doing it. But all we had to do was pay a damage bond to council in case we damaged gutters etc...
