Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 301Apr 25, 2017 4:39 pm well, no progress due to rain - I had the back and front doorframes put in, though. It seems to me that someone creeps in and fiddles a bit on the days that it's raining - which is way better than nothing at all! I'm not in a huge hurry, so it doesn't matter, as long as it's all done by first week of October - gives me enough time to get the floors down etc etc, before the onslaught of relatives arrive! I was going with Advance Robes, but the young folk have taken over and aren't as good as the older generation in answering phones and getting back to you etc etc. Off to image robes at Pooraka tomorrow, to see what they can do for me. At least they have colour choices! Wallspan had a total of three - white melamine or a yellow-y/apricot-y blond wood look, or a dark charcoal brown wood look. That was it. And not much choice in door styles - AND they were dearer. Nope. Spent today drawing up what I basically want, so Image have something to work with. We'll see what they say. Anyone else go through them? How's everyone else doing? That's interesting, think we'll look at image robes too, thanks Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 303Apr 25, 2017 7:46 pm Hi JayaJaya, we approached advanced robes for a quote and never heard back. They have been highly recommended by members of our family who have all used them previously. Have you heard anything about the quality of their work since they changed over? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 304Apr 26, 2017 7:40 am Hi Bubbles_family! I'm assuming the quality of their work would be the same - I haven't heard anything about that, though. I would think they've kept the same installers/manufactory and what have you. Our friends had them about five years back, and said they were great - it looked a wonderful job. However, when I went for a quote last year, I also had trouble getting answers etc, until I went up there one day, and ran into the 'Dad', who had run it and was thinking of retiring. Therefore he'd put the young ones in the office/in the field etc, and was practically handing it to them on a silver platter. In the course of discussions he gave me to understand that he wasn't too impressed with their performance, and I was also given to understand that I wasn't the only customer who had difficulties. He then did the quote himself, and even dropped it into our letterbox - and he was supposed to be taking a step back from the business. It was a good quote, but I was afraid he'd be gone by the time we wanted the robes. Honestly, I wouldn't have considered anyone else, except for this current issue. I doubt you'll get your quote, unless you chase them a lot - I rang and emailed repeatedly, before going up there. I recently saw a sign up there about getting DIY packages, as I was driving by, so I think that I just have the impression that I want to give it a miss. Can only say I'd have been over the moon to be handed a business like that with such a good reputation, at their age - takes all sorts. I'm not surprised you haven't heard anything; let's put it that way. So after some investigations and quotes elsewhere I've decided to go check out Image robes - because I have a weird length to my walk in, I've gotta use a manufacturer. The standard length cabinetry from the mass makers won't cut it. However I think you get a better product for less price from the manufacterers, like Image and Advance. And who wants to pass up full customization? We have a cloak room for shoes, and so we don't need that at all in our robes, etc, etc. I'm giving Image a miss today, because of the atrocious weather, and I'd have to do some walking after getting off the bus out there... I'll let you know what I think when I've been, if you like. I can honestly say I was impressed with the office personnel when I rang with enquiries - everyone seemed to know what they were doing. That always helps. So your actual answer is - I don't know for sure, but I imagine the quality hasn''t suffered, if you can get hold of them. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 305Apr 26, 2017 2:35 pm That would be great thanks 😀 pooraka is so far away though! It's a shame about advanced. My parents, grandparents and sister in law have all used them in the last 2 years and been very happy with them. They were even recommended by one of the building sales people we approached. To be honest we hadn't even considered shopping around! Good luck with your robe quest! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 306May 06, 2017 7:11 am Thanks - I'll be going out there on Thursday 11th, so I should have some info to report by Friday. Porraka's not that far away! An hour from the city by bus, much less than that by car. Hahaha... I come from NSW where people don't think anything of a two hour commute or driving five hours there and back to go on a picnic - Pooraka's not far... Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 307May 06, 2017 7:37 am Been painting a pic for my doctor, as some of the kid's drawings she had were positively gruesome, though well meant.
I've been sick for eight weeks, now, and have been referred to a respiratory specialist... such fun! At least my doctor loved the painting, I left her deciding where to hang it. First progress pic - the colours are off in the photo's of course! It's called 'Burgeon'. There is one on the other side, through to the retreat, as well. I think it blends in really well and the frame itself looks huge. When we stopped by our place two weeks ago, there was a magpie sitting on the roof opposite with a live mouse in its beak! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 315May 07, 2017 8:03 am Love the painting!! You my friend have some incredible talent!! Love your house, looks huuuuuggeeeeee!!!!! The Dune, is fine, it blends fine - it's just that there's so much brown in it - and I, my friends, am not a brown girl, as you know. Well, I AM a brown girl, in my person actually, but I'm desperately fighting it - have dyed my hair a dark teal/aquamarine. I'm short, fat and with the hair - I'm pretty spot-able. If you see me around, come say hi. If the grey had been slightly more prominent in the dune, like the colorbond swatches we had, I'd 've been a lot happier. Having said that, I don't stand around staring at my gutters and window frames, so, whatever - no one died! I hate that it reflects orange in the westering sun, but I don't expect I'll see it much, then. It tones in fine, so... fine. Thanks Charlibear, that was a quickie painting! I'm still learning, though - never ending process. Thank heavens for all the generous people on you tube like will kemp, the art sherpa, and so many others... they keep me on my toes! I'm gonna do a still life for myself, next. But kind of a tongue in cheek, pop art one... will post that if I ever finish it! I'm gonna have to start charging my Mum - all my paintings end up over there, somehow. Your biggest fan is always your Mother! My hubby finds art completely obscure - he can't tell the difference between my stuff and Van Gogh or Pissaro, or Dali. He thinks 'Irises' is pretty, and would pay ten dollars for it. Cripes!!! We went to the Musee d'Orsay exhibition in Canberra, and the Turner exhib, when it was here. He can't tell the difference between that, and what you get in K-mart. He's completely unmoved... Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 317May 07, 2017 8:32 am That's Bruce. Pretty cool guy. He likes listening to Depeche Mode. Loves the colour orange. Hates parsley. Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 318May 07, 2017 8:45 am The other thing about the frame, is that with the extra ceiling height, the roof pitch looks really weird - like, too steep. It makes it look massive! Once you go in, it's not really a big house. There's miles of storage, which is what I wanted. SOOOO HAPPY with my giant pantry. Really pleased. I have to scope out some drawer units of the right height, to whack some bunnings benchtops on. Then to just shelve out. I'd do it myself but hubby gets nervous when I DIY. So I asked him what in tarnation he bought me the mitre saw FOR, then? We love each other, really, but so very opposite. I really love my cloak room at the front. I hate rummaging for sports equipment and coats and shoes in other rooms. Just grab and go with this, plus shopping bags and trolley, suitcases etc etc. I'm so pleased with it. And the laundry is big enough to do all my crafts and painting, plus cut the family's hair, dye fabric, starch clothes etc etc. I can do all the ironing there, too, plus make soap and so on. Thrilled with that. I think I'll do my makeup in there too, once we're in... no sense messing up the bathroom or bedroom. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 319May 07, 2017 8:49 am hahahaa MJT - Bruce and I have so much in common, except I love parsley and am not super keen on orange. Depeche Mode is a winner, though! Bruce was getting closer and closer as I spoke to him, so I wouldn't be surprised if he knew a few of the folks around... I would think he was the sort to crash parties at squats... Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 320May 07, 2017 8:49 am I think Bruce may be making his/her nest in the roof opposite us, we watched her flying up there with twigs and paper, don't think it's gonna last up there long ☹️ For reference, this is the Austlii reference.
