Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 401Aug 15, 2017 2:54 pm Well, you can move in, but you're gonna get that wonky fridge, and that really sketchy clock! Hahahaa, I haven't even had time to do real paintings for the house... I'm gonna have to see what bare spaces I have and then fill in, after we move in. I'm working on some hammered aluminium plates for the walls. Don't know what the neighbours think about the constant tinny banging sounds! Lol Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 402Aug 15, 2017 9:01 pm Very creative. Love the lights by the window Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 403Aug 17, 2017 6:43 am I adore those type of wall lights... nothing as satisfying as a good sconce I'm having the ones with the round globe on the wall between the bed and the walk in robes - instead of table lamps... more space on the bedsides and better reading light. Probably won't even turn the main light on! Think I'll turn them downward, though, so no shadow cast - good old ikea! How is progress going Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 407Aug 25, 2017 12:02 pm Nothing is happening at all really! I just contacted the SS to arrange for my plantation shutters to be measured when someone is there. I have shown up a couple of days, and nothing happening. Apparently the tiler will be there again later next week - don't know what's taking so long, but I guess these temps would affect the adhesives to some degree. Also with a medium builder, they have less tradesmen available. I've been busy trying to tee up trades for when it's finished - been putting all the non-current clothing in space bags today - so terribly thrilling, I can't even speak about it! However it's a good excuse to play all the Harry Potter films in a row - I don't have to pay attention, except in the good bits! I'm up to the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is awesome, cuz I fancy David Thewliss something rotten! Over this cold weather though - how about you? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 408Aug 25, 2017 1:24 pm Yes tiling was my longest wait time and keep a watch out for costly mistakes. Over the mud that dog brings in aargh! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 409Aug 28, 2017 3:30 pm Yayy! I've managed to organize the plantation shutters measurement for tomorrow - one less thing to bother about at moving time. Funny thing the amount of people who don't EVER get back to you, though.... (SARCASM ALERT !!! WARNING WARNING!!!) Bluddy Mud! Thankfully the tiles are all the same in each room, walls and floors - we decided no feature tiles, or a bit of this, and a bit of that. The bathroom is pretty small, though with an efficient layout - we thought it would be too 'bitsy' to have more. Not like my friend who ended up with the entire bathroom feature wall in the wrong place! You don't see it unless you're in the shower. Unluckily she didn't have the time for them to fix it, she HAD to move in, or sleep on the street. Not my builder, thankfully! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 410Aug 28, 2017 4:31 pm While I think of it, I wanna run something by all of you. I've been taking pictures of next door's build, as they live a ways out, and can't get down here all the time, so I email them. I noticed that they don't have metal lintels above the doors and windows - even their big stacker sliding door. Is this normal? The brickies haven't bricked there, so maybe they are having some type of cladding above the openings, but we just were a bit flabbergasted. The house we are in now, is timber frame, however there are metal lintels above all the openings - same with my Mum's house. I've never seen a place without them, and was wondering if any of you know if it's common practice? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 411Aug 28, 2017 4:42 pm Mine was like that too. I think it's the way framing is done? Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 412Aug 30, 2017 12:21 pm Yeah, a few of the builds around are like that - never seen it before! I had a fine old time with the blinds quote, yesterday... some windows were too wide, and so we end up with three panels, and blah blah blah. I suggested three panels and was 'pooh poohed' and then the guy comes up with three panels, like it's his own idea... nice guy, but really - a woman talks, they switch off. Der Fred. I got what I wanted, though, which was the idea. The tiling has been held up, by the stone not being ready. The stone dude came for a final measure, and it worked out well that I was there, as he wanted to run a few things by me, make sure all the instructions teed up with what I intended. Carrera kitchens - good product, but not reliable on the timing front. F0rm@t should consider going with someone else, but I get the feeling that 'relations' or 'friends' might be a factor there. I know I had difficulties in getting them to understand what I wanted in the first instance. I'm really happy about the pantry tile - it's gonna look great. Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 413Aug 30, 2017 3:15 pm Hope it gets moving. Tiling really brings it all together. I'm missing that new things excitement. Lucky we get a fix here Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 414Aug 30, 2017 4:19 pm Hahahahaa... all the new things! All the new! Things! New! All new things!..... I'm sorta liking it, and over it at the same time. In discussions with Swan coatings about the garage floor polyurea - they seem to think the concrete will be too new. Nuts to that, I want that stuff, and not the dreaded epoxy. We'll see what they say... I get the feeling that they want to shift a few tins of something else... So I asked them the chemical reason why not, and the mechanics of any possible degradation, rubbing, flaking, time span, blah blah. Hopefully they can answer me - if not, then I know not to use them. So much fun! Re: New Building Seaford Meadows SA 415Sep 01, 2017 6:29 pm Ok Pantry P0rn... tiles - ungrouted. Going with magellan grey grout, which we picked for the laundry tiles... I'm told that Magellan Grey is a Popular Grout Colour. I didn't know there were popular grout colours... more to do with popular tile colours, I'd have thought... Have to say I love this floor. All that geometry going on! I can't look at it for too long because my brain keeps on flicking the direction of the cubes around. If I look for more than five seconds, I have directional handicap... I see all the directions at once. As my hubby said, 'Trippy'.
