Building A New House
Mar 04, 2016 1:03 pm
This is my first post here after reading lots of useful advice.
We aree attempting to choose a builder for our knockdown rebuild project in bayside melbourne.
We have a fairly limited budget and are currently considering SJD Cavesham, Porter Davis London (21) and a custom build from Ashford homes.
We love the sound of SJD and get a really good feel from them however the custom option of Ashford appeals. Our block is very boring with next to no fall.
Does anyone have personal experience with these builders and houses?

I was sure i replied. I mustnt have sent. Its not a matter of saving more but wantingto pay off our loan in the next fewyears. Our budget is achievable but just rules out more boutique builders. I am really hoping for some feedback on these builders, anyone?

Only just saw your post. We are currently in the process of building with Ashford and so far, so good. It is not a KDR though. We are currently at frame stage, roof should be going on soon.
We were going to build with Carlisle but then came across Ashford. As you have said, their custom builds are very appealing and we are now building exactly what we wanted. Plus their inclusions were excellent - not everything is an 'extra' like most big builders. We spent about $18,000.00 on upgrades, though the majority of this cost was the driveway (upgrade to aggregate and extending it around both sides of the house) and the kitchen where I added a heap more stone.
Here's my thread if you are interested: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81506
Good luck with everything

HI TashandPaul, thank you for your response. I read your thread, it seems like things are going really well. I have to admit i am pretty nervous about using Ashford as they have 50% NEGATIVE reviews on product review site.
In addition the sales person came out and met with us. Said she would have the ideas back to us within a week, it has now been a month and she called on Thursday. She said she had been on sick leave but to hear from no one made me a bit anxious.
Sjd have done a soil and site survey and said the results would be back this week coming. I rang him last week and he sent a text message back saying he was on leave and could it wait til his return or did he need to refer it to another staff member.
Im just a bit nervous that I can only find positive reports for SJD.

I think SJD did a house in Silver St, Cheltenham - just recently finished. They were very upfront about cost when I contacted them.
you are right. I need to have a walk past
