Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 02, 2016 11:33 pm We've finally signed our final drawings and colour addendum and are due to have our slab poured later this month. I am so excited to start seeing our ideas come to fruition! I've spent the past 8months reading this forum and following guidelines and suggestions offered by members who are further along in their build. This forum has been a wealth of support and information for us and as we commence the construction stage, I wanted to share our journey as we progress forward. We are building with New Generation Homes - we started with the Prestige design (now discontinued) but have customised it substantially from the original plan so as to better position our home on our block - with a big consideration being the direction in which the sun rises and sets. We want out open-plan living area to get lots of natural light Looking forward to sharing our journey! We've been allocated our construction supervisor so work should start in the next couple of weeks. Excited!! Definitely having a slab party when it's poured! Yes definitely have a slab party. We haven't yet but maybe we'll crack a bottle there this weekend. Haha!! My vision for our front door entrance - we are going with a coloured front door (eeek!) and we have feature red Menzies brick around the door and on the feature wall. Fingers crossed it looks as nice as this front door!! No walls yet. I drove past yesterday. I also have my new neighbour on watch. She said she'd text me when brick work starts. I have a feeling it might be tomorrow. That marks 21 days since slab was poured. It's really hard not drive past often. I know I battle a bit. As our block is slightly elevated, its difficult to get a great pic from the street. Nerves have seriously kicked in now.... Very excited but it's also quite overwhelming to think that things are now underway. After months of planning and late nights spent thinking about our selections... there is now no turning back! Couple of questions.... When does the garage slab get laid? Is it normal to have hairline cracks in the slab as it dries? (hubby is a complete perfectionist and commented on this) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Building with New Generation Homes in Baldivis, WA 'Building Our New Home - Baldivis': viewtopic.php?f=31&t=82258&p=1513857#p1513857 Re: Building Our New Home - Baldivis, WA 18Mar 13, 2016 4:17 pm Wooo hoo!! Congrats on slab!! The garage won't get done till way later, ours was a couple of weeks ago. Re: Building Our New Home - Baldivis, WA 19Mar 13, 2016 4:40 pm Conslabulations!! What a nice surprise! Hairline cracks are normal. Don't stress The garage slab gets poured much later. I believe it gets done close to lock up or there about Our Easystart Build in Annie's Landing https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81061&p=1478674#p1478674 Re: Building Our New Home - Baldivis, WA 20Mar 13, 2016 5:58 pm Thanks ladies! I am super stoked with our Sunday surprise!! Lol! The site is terribly messy but we haven't actually been notified about the slab so I presume they are still busy and might remove the blobs of concrete on the driveway. Although, being a building site and seeing our neighbours' sites, I don't expect it to be tidy until way later down the track. Thanks for clarifying re garage slab and hairline cracks Chantalmaree - you know MY husband and his tendency to be paranoid at the slightest of things... good luck to us when we have kids!!
