Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 25, 2008 11:08 am Well, we finally have (verbal) DA approval, so i thought I'd start a thread.
All being well, Wisdom will be able to start building within 3 weeks. Of course, we'll be blogging all the details and photos as soon as it starts happening. C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 2Jul 25, 2008 11:11 am That's fantastic guys! Are you going to The Ponds opening on Sunday? That house looks absolutely fantastic. Oh - another question - when did you select tiles, carpet and laminates for the house? Was it with Anita - or do you go direct to DiLorenzo? After 4 years - we're in! Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 3Jul 25, 2008 11:20 am Hi stonecutter... yeah we've been up to the new display home a couple of weeks ago... so prob won't go this weekend. I agree it looks fantastic. We chose the same kitchen colours as the display home on Wisdoms recommendation, and pleased to see how good it all looks in the flesh.
Yup, we selected carpets at our colour consultation. Going for the colour they have in the mt annan showhome (which is now closed apparently). We're not having any laminate, just carpet and tiles. Haven't chosen tiles yet, but we've been to DiLorenzo to scout possible tile choices and see what's in the standard allowance. Think we'll end up paying for a small upgrade to the tiles based on what we saw. We do electrical plan and final details next Friday. Have you got your land sorted yet? C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 4Jul 25, 2008 11:28 am Our electrical plan is done - and I think we want the same colour carpet that you chose. Hope to get to Dilorenzo on the weekend to look at the tile choices - we want larger sized tiles so I have a feeling we'll need to upgrade.
They are opening Anita's new colour office at The Ponds soon I think. We are currently waiting on Sydney Water to approve the sewerage system at the estate - as soon as that's done, titles will be registered. There are street lamps and street signs up which is exciting. This rain isn't helping any! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 6Jul 25, 2008 3:50 pm Congrats

Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 10Jul 25, 2008 11:05 pm donuts Congratulations to you both on starting - it's such an exciting feeling! Stonecutter and bobbuilder - are you building the same house? Or just same builder? Thanks donuts. We're building that same house, but Stonecutter went for the bigger version - it has an additional room downstairs, and a slightly more spacious kitchen. I think that's cos she said she's having 101 kids to fill it with. C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 11Jul 26, 2008 8:05 am donuts Stonecutter and bobbuilder - are you building the same house? Or just same builder? Bob's correct - they're building the 33 sq version, we are building the 38 sq (plus some additions to really make it about 43 sq) I don't know about 101 kids though! I'm 29 - might have left it a bit late - 2 or 3 will be great After 4 years - we're in! Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 12Aug 22, 2008 3:17 pm Ok, so here we are several weeks later, after the council kept promising to approve the DA, then refusing to answer calls, then saying we needed significant geotechnical surveys done, then saying we didn't. Grrr. Talk about frustrating.
Anyway, we finally have written DA approval, so we've made some progress. Still nowhere near being ready to start building though. We now need to get the block cleared of the scrub that has grown on the site, have two trees removed, have a final meeting with Wisdom to confirm everything, and then obtain our construction certificate. The trees and site clearing will be done next week, along with the meeting with Wisdom hopefully. I must say again that the people at Wisdom have been very helpful throughout in moving it along as quickly as possible (given slow and unresponsive council). They're always available to talk to, and get back to us promptly on queries. Fingers crossed they're this good throughout the build process. Nothing happening on our front - land is ready - just waiting for titles. (and waiting!) After 4 years - we're in! Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 14Aug 22, 2008 4:56 pm Hmmm you're being very patient. Hope you get your titles soon. Will that make you lord and lady stonecutter? C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 15Sep 02, 2008 8:32 pm Hi Bobbuilder,
We are building down the road from you in Oatley. Thought I would say hi, nice to read about another Syd south builder!! Would I be right saying you have Hurstville council to deal with??? Are you going to use a local independent inspector whilst building??? If yes would you mind PMing me the details - Thanks! Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 16Sep 03, 2008 9:58 am Hi bel... good to hear of another St George build happening. We really liked Oatley but were priced out of the market, so ended up in Peakhurst. Have you got a blog up and running yet? What stage are you at?
Yes, we've had to deal with Hurstville council. It was hard work getting approval I warn you now. We haven't chosen an independant inspector yet, i was thinking Tyrells as they seem to be one of the few I can actually find that have been mentioned on this forum. Hopefully by the time we need them someone will have been able to write a nice review about them C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 17Sep 03, 2008 6:14 pm I've started a thread (is that the right term??) in the "Building a new house" section here in H1, couldn't possibly do a blog, not that technically advanced !!?!
We are actually in council at the moment, but we are East Oatley so Kogarah council. I have heard horror stories about Hurstville, as well as Kogarah, so I'm trying not to get too excited. I'm hoping maybe with the council elections soon, they are trying to be productive and get approvals through (wishful thinking I know ) Will enjoy reading your progress!! Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 18Sep 10, 2008 9:12 am Update - our site has been pegged out. Never thought i'd be so pleased to see four bits of wood hammered into a piece of dirt.
Still no construction certificate, but things seem to be moving along - although hever as quick as you'd like I guess. C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 19Sep 10, 2008 12:47 pm Congrats on your red pegs.
I remember how excited I was when we saw our red pegs... Do your builders now consider your build now 'UNDER CONSTRUCTION'??? Good luck with the CC, it shouldn't be too far away... Re: Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MKII 20Sep 10, 2008 12:52 pm Thanks Clarity.
By EB, do you mean Eden Brae? Not sure if they consider our house under construction - i'll have to ring them up and ask them - although our builder is Wisdom Homes so not sure how much EB's opinion will reassure me C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins..
