Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 24, 2008 4:54 pm Hi all
My first posting on this site, though I have been wandering and gaining some very valuable information for the last few weeks. Hoping someone might be able to help me out with some info/advice... Our contract includes a M Class slab and our soil test came back as MD. The contract they've put before us says the following: - MD engineer designed concrete waffle pod slab $6640 - provide additional bulk concrete and bulk sand to achieve cement foundation depth including extra cartage to site $5825. I can't help but feel we're getting ripped off here because they haven't even consulted the engineer about the design of the slab, yet can determine the cost. FYI, we've had the site cut and levelled ourselves, so there is no fall in the land - it's completely flat with no fill. For anyone in the know - does this sound right for costs to upgrade from M Class to MD Class? Building in remote, regional Vic We have roof, frame, walls, plumbing, electrical....but no bricks! Yes, I thought the name was more than appropriate - it's been nine months of red tape and very poor customer service and we still don't look any closer to starting! Starting to wish we'd renovated instead! Building in remote, regional Vic We have roof, frame, walls, plumbing, electrical....but no bricks! The Soil classification has little to do with piers. The purpose of the classing of the soil is to identify the clay content and the "average expected range of movement… 2 7920 They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 2790 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 8282 |
