We are doing a KDR and had in our contract "additional excavation including import / export fill" $3590. The slab has now been laid and today we have been hit with a 5k variation to remove 52 tonnes of mixed waste. We were not contacted to advise that there was an issue when the excavation. Is this a usual occurrence? Extra $4k to remove heavy roots and rubbles when they started the site work. I suppose it is unforeseen circumstances since they won't know what is underneath until they started digging. Unless there were unforeseeable issues with the site, I dont think you should have to pay for contractors errors or poor planning.
