Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 26, 2014 1:41 pm Hi All, We're looking at building a custom designed home in the newcastle area. We're pretty keen to find a custom builder who does the design and build process and come in at reasonable fees with good work - bit of design flair(modern design) and reasonable quality. A few examples we're looking at are : Dixon Homes Hunter Hillman Homes GJ Gardner Hunter. We're after any recommendations for those who have built or know of someone who has build with the above. Also keen to hear any recommendation of similar builders in the area, good or bad. We really just want to pick a builder and go from there, rather than draft our design and shop it around. We might save a bit of money on the latter, but we feel we'd get better and more prompt service if we have a one to one relationship with a builder. Thanks Re: Builders in Newcastle Area 3Aug 25, 2014 6:25 pm I would like to revitalise this topic as we are seeking exactly the same as Art. art how did you progress? Anyone else make recommendations or PM me? We want reasonable quality and cost, who can manage build from demolition right through and contract for costs upfront. The inclusions of project and set price like Rawson attract us but we can't settle on a plan we like. Macquarie Homes are one we are looking at. Thanks for your advice. Re: Builders in Newcastle Area 4Aug 26, 2014 10:48 am I am also looking for a custom builder on a new home in the newcastle area. Any recommendations? Re: Builders in Newcastle Area 5Sep 09, 2014 11:42 pm My in laws built with Macquarie Homes. It ended up being a gorgeous home, but cost $100k more than ours for 3 bedroom, ours is 4. There's is a sloping site and they've picked a few new inclusions, though I believe it being custom has pumped the price up a bit. They had a good experience, though were onto them most days chasing up why no one was on site, asking questions etc, generally in their ear trying to hurry them along. They did finish earlier than the contract period, though the contract period seemed quite long. But yeah, final product is a gorgeous home!
