Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New porcelain tiles cleaning 2Feb 15, 2016 12:43 pm I assume you have polished porcelain? I have honed porcelain and had mega troubles with grout haze, paint and plaster residue staining my floor. I wont bore you with how hard it was to clean though. If they are polished, they come with a protective wax sealer for transportation and installation protection. Sometimes this wax is water soluble. So you can either try a general mop with warm water, or try a scrubbing mop. Being polished, use a light duty scrubbing mop, nothing heady duty or you may scratch. If in doubt, find your nearest tile shop and explain what you want to clean and they can advise on the best option. Grout haze won't come off with water, or at least not heavy haze. First bet is to try a neutral PH cleaner. Try your local tile shop, they generally sell decent stuff (Beaumont etc). If that doesn't work you may need to work your way up to a phosphoric acid cleaner, BUT before you do that, go have a chat with the place that sold you your tiles. Tell them what tiles you bought and that you need to remove grout haze. Remember that it is an acid, so it may damage your tiles - which is why its best to speak to the place you got the tiles from before doing. Don't leave the grout haze too long - the longer its on, the harder it is to clean.
